I attended a course at the WU Medical Center about a week ago where the President of BJC spoke about their future plans. As mentioned a couple times here, BJC is currently planning for the next 10-20 years and wanted to know now if they had their preferred land on which to expand in hand. Now they do. I wouldn't be surprised if nothing at all was built on the leased land for 10 years. He did comment that BJC is nearly done with a $100M+ operating/emergency room rebuilding and desired any new beds/buildings to be in close proximity to this investment. I can't recall the numbers exactly but with the baby-boom generation aging, BJC anticipates needing another 1,200 beds on top of the ~1,200 they have at the Kingshighway site now. He didn't mention Queeny Tower coming down, but that's been the assumption elsewhere. IMO, with nine acres, the building needn't be 30 stories - check the satellite view of Queeny, it doesn't consume much land at all - they could spread out if they want.
I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but I can't think of anywhere else to put it.
About a month ago I was in the second-hand shop at the corner of Forest Park Parkway and Euclid. I got to talking to the older couple who run the place(really nice people from Galveston) and she was saying that the store use to be in Barnes but they ran out of room for it and moved it to their current location(Barnes owns the store, all profit goes to Barnes). But, she then told me how Barnes plans to take their building and eventually that entire block. She later added that she thinks Barnes is trying to take over the world. I couldn't believe it. Anyone know anything about this? Any truth behind it?

Officially, those plans are secret. We'll have to deal with her.

Well, now that the cat is out of the bag.....yes. It's true. Barnes is trying to take over the world.

Well, they have "taken" a good deal of that block and put in a humongous parking garage. I'd bet that they buy the rest of the block if they don't it already and do something with it - maybe in their long-term, ~20yr plan? Then again, maybe they don't need it down that they have the Hudlin Park area . . .

I'd doubt Barnes would be able to get the whole block...there happens to be a 15 story apartment building on the northwest portion of the block, as well as a pretty large retirement home east of that. That would have to be a large chunk of cash, I would imagine. Also, I would have to think that Barnes would be better off building more east before attempting to go any further north.
