Here's what's next on the WU/BJC/Children's medical campus. We've known for some time that investments totaling $1B are coming over the next decade. BioMed 21, new BJC headquarters, Shriners and now this...and there will be more.

The new buildings look good.

I'm curious, though, why Children's hasn't built up; their building was engineered for the addition of several floors.

I know its preliminary, but do you know how the building is going to interact with Kingshighway? Is it just offices that face the street, parking garage, some sort of commerical development that people walk in and out of? I couldn't get a feel for what they're are doing in the document.

I understand that they may not have hinted at anything yet.

^ Completely guessing, but I'd say no one's going to be overly excited about the wall facing Kingshighway at street level. I don't even know if this is an awful thing, or more properly, what can or should be done about it. I mean, there isn't going to be patient drop-off/pick-up directly off Kingshighway. There isn't going to be retail. In a few planning documents, the medical campus vision talks about Kingshighway being the "front door". I think this is only true from a skyline/facade viewed driving by or from Forest Park, sense.

Nothing new, but here is the link to today's Wash U statement about the medical center construction:

Why would anyone read anything else? This is the first place I look for news.

Anyone know the timeline on this.... with the buildings now cleared, will we see construction cranes soon? Glass is now starting to appear on the STLCOP building, and I hope that we get at least a period of time where we have BJC hospital cranes joining the existing ones in the CWE skyline.

I also noticed two stories of wood framing are now going up on the hotel project next to the Aventurd. Looks like the corner commercial spot won't get worked on until the hotel is done.

I happened to drive by there yesterday. There are two nice holes in the ground along Kingshighway. Piers are being drilled in some spots, with excavation still underway in other spots. I would expect cranes in the not too distant future.

I never realized before how ugly the Children's Hospital building is. Good thing it's gonna be largely blocked by one of the new towers.

I know we're all ease-of-parking haters around here: but they need to solve the parking situation at Childrens. When you have a sick child it's a pain in the a** to drive around their limited garage waiting for a spot.
