If I am reading this correctly, then Anthony Duncan (who is responsible for the Grove container) is apparently also putting one up in the Dutchtown neighborhood: http://www.mnn.com/your-home/remodeling ... o-st-louis

Not a fan of how Jetson Green cut & pasted my story...left two messages asking politely for attribution. Hmph.

Also, the $500,000 price tag seems astronomical. If that's accurate, I have a hard time imagining that tenants can be found to support that development cost.

Half a mill for ten storage containers stacked three high with glass caps on the end? Yeah.

Here's a shipping container mall in Christcurch, NZ built to house downtown retail after the earthquake.

Considering the Bistro Box was proposed in November at the beginning of the Sustainable Land Lab competition, it's arguably the first announced. Not sure if it really matters, because I really like both proposals currently on the table.

I wasn't on the jury, but I was really hoping the Bistro Box would be one of the winning teams. I love the idea behind it, and it will have great synergy with Old North Grocery Co-op and 13th Street Community Garden across 13th Street, RR Farms on the same site, Haven of Grace for potential job training possibilities, and for me, it's right out the back door of my office at Old North Saint Louis Restoration Group. I'm really excited to have another dining option in Old North, and in a distinctive building to top it off.

You can keep up to date with the project on their Facebook Page.

Did this ever materialize? I came across it on another site and then found the discussion here, but every bit of news I've come across and every image I've seen is a rendering.

They are still finishing up plans and fundraising. They reworked the plans a little to make things simpler from a structural perspective. They have gotten some good commitments from constructions companies and others, so they are close from what I understand. Look for work to start this summer.

So there's this one, the one in the Grove, and the one on Cherokee. How are those other two coming along? Been awhile since I was on Cherokee. I think I saw a big hole in the ground for the one in the Grove though. Probably starting construction soon if it hasn't already.

These are fantastic and add a bit of modern looking diversity, which is sorely needed in my opinion.

One of the things I love about STL is the excellent stock of historic brick architecture. That said, a lot has been lost and I really, really disdain newer construction, which attempts to mimic the old grands. It can almost never be pulled off in this day and age and ends up looking cheap as hell.

This type of development is just what the city needs for these vacant lots. I did see some renders for the one on Cherokee and that is going to be a 100% improvement over that grassy lot there now!
