It's hard to self-proclaim oneself as a "front-runner." 8)

Actually, when I think about it, it's not all that hard for some people, but I know what you're saying.

I'm glad to hear that Bevo will reopen and that German cuisine will again be featured. 8)

So here we are... again - The city has issued an RFP for the Bevo - I am not sure when the latest incarnation went dark, I went to a German night there about 3 years ago, it was OK, but kind of pricey.

Would like to see one of our star serial restaurateurs or brewers step in with a Hofbrau Haus type beer hall - Music, Singing, schnitzel, half roast chickens, brats and loads of beer.

The stipulation is that who ever takes it over must spend 1 million on renovation, the place looks OK after a maintenance renovation a few years ago

On a personal experience/observation possibly they (whomever "they" are) could redo the street signage/lighting. Driving is a mess in that area: one way streets, no turns, no turns on red yikes!!!

Probably not the right place to post this, but along with the RFP for the Bevo Mill, Park Central is also working to form a Bevo CID, encompassing the stretch along Gravois from Christy to Taft, and on Morganford across from the mill. Will be interesting to see how this progresses.

Isn't that pretty far from PCD's home turf? It stretches the definition of Central Corridor halfway into South City.

Bevo and Dutchtown have serious potential, and the housing/building stock has not decayed terribly despite a few decades of neglect. Hopefully the neighborhoods can be revitalized.

PCD is acting as an consultant for the establishment of bevo cid. Howard asked me if I wanted to be involved but I didn't live in her Ward or own property in the cid boundary

Totally agree with Beercity & chaifetz10. This should be turned into a Hofbrau House - type traditional beer hall. This could be huge. I also agree that Billy Busch could not only preserve his family history, but also inject life into an area needing a boost. Unfortunately, he is probably focused on Grants Farm right now. Being the landmark that it is, it deserves more than a standard, boring restaurant or establishment. It should have a bar no matter what. Too bad this property is not bigger. Maybe Hofbrau would have considered it. Being that the Belleville Hofbrau is far from this location, I wouldn't see either as a threat to each other, if Bevo Mill became a beer hall. Let's hope this STL landmark is turned into a destination establishment.

It's about time that Hofbrauhaus opens a St. Louis location - especially with our burgeoning beer scene and strong German heritage. Bevo Mill would make an excellent venue, and would surely rival the flagship Hofbrauhaus in Munich!

2 concepts - one from the folks at Vin de Set and 1111 the other from the people who rehabbed the Boo Cat Club -

Both proposals call for micro brewery, restaurant and beer garden

We are heading in the right direction

micro brewery, restaurant and beer garden is not headed in the right direction, it's the only direction!

(btw, I think those people who did the boo cat also renovated recently that old theater (I think that is what it was) on the city border with Maplewood into another venue.)

I am more excited about the prospect of this happening than a lot of the 100+ unit residential buildings we hear about. I know it's silly but this building is iconic STL and needs a great tenant brauhaus.

^ Specifically, I think it's important as a South St. Louis landmark. I think of the Southside being so culturally rich and diverse in a lot of ways, but their aren't a whole lot of historic, iconic landmarks that define it. Bevo Mill, the Southwest Bank Building @ Kingshighway & Southwest, the Southwest Bank Tower @ Grand & Gravois, and the Brewery stand out as representing nearly the entirety of major South City landmarks.

^ I agree and it certainly is in an area that can use some help... the future of this city ultimately is going to hinge on the health of neighborhoods like Bevo and Baden and not the Central West End and Forest Park SE.

Man, this looks fantastic. I like that the modern addition will eat up some of that massive parking lot. Great design, I'm looking forward to this one.

Hopefully, this redo is one that solidifies this STL landmark for decades to come. I hope to see this place rise, as a hot spot, maybe breathing some new life into an area that could use a boost right now. It was 10 or so years ago, that the area really got a boost from some new bars and restaurants. Maybe Bevo can gain some momentum. Hopefully, the "Little Bevo" across the street, can find life. (Assuming it hasn't already)
