^very good restaurant

I would also suggest the gyro shop tucked out of the way on the Delmar Loop, or Olympia Kebob House.

I heart Olympia, their flaming cheese, and their awesomeness at accommodating vegetarians. :) Look for it on McCausland south of Hwy 40.

I like Appolonia's at Gravois and Kingshighway. If you're in a hurry a doner kebob at the Gyro Company (Gravois near Hampton) is very delicious and filling.

I concur that Olympia is excellent... I'd highly recommend it. Just watch yourself crossing McCauseland when going from the (small) parking lot to the restaurant.

Oh! And dont forget about all the great Greek Fests around the area each year! I particularly love the one in the Central West End.

I would try the new Hookah bar on Wash Ave. They serve Greek food and pretty tasty Gyros.

Remember Greek Gourmet on Ballas in Creve Coeur? Every Jew in West County used to go there. I still miss it.

Oh yes, that's one of my favorites. 8)

St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church at Kingshighway and Forest Park Avenue has their annual festival every Labor Day weekend. There are also festivals at Greek Orthodox churches in West County and the Metro East, and I'm not sure about the dates of those, although I'm sure they serve great Greek food as well.

Olympia's great although I haven't been there in ages since Apolonia and the Gyro House on Gravois Avenue are much closer to my abode. I really need to try Anthonino's and Momo's some time as I've heard great things about them.

I've had Momo's. It was ok, but I prefer a different atmosphere. Perhaps it was because we were there on a Saturday night, but it just felt too "clubby," even in the back dining room. It was awfully loud.

That said, the food was pretty good. We had plenty to choose from, including enough options for me as a vegetarian. I'd say there's something for everyone if you eat tapas-style. :)

The Greek Orthodox Church in West County (outer road of 270 north of Manchester) has Greek lunches every Friday. 11am to 2pm. I'm a regular there. Love their gyros, but most go for the heartier fare.

Sounds like there is a lot of good gyro to be consumed. I have only been to Olympia House and Arie's(Hampton and Arsenal). Definately stoked about the local parish cuisine, not to mention other eateries as well!

I ate at Olypmia one time and didn't care for it. I wasn't all that "up" on Greek food as it was, I just knew they had gyros. So I got a gyro (they don't offer sides of any kind, the waiter tells me), wife got a salad, both got drinks; $18. Wasn't worth it, I woulda rather went to Pam's on the Loop :)

I'm no Greek food expert. Went to Olympia and had a pretty good experience. I have also had the Friday lunch off Manchester and 270 at the Greek church. I need to try some of the others mentioned and they sound good.

Interestingly, one of the residents at St Mary's came from Greece in June and asked me about Greek food. He lives in the hospital neighborhood so I sent him to Olympia. He said he had a great time with the manager who brought him out a lot of things to try and it was okay, however, not especially "authentic". Not really sure what he meant, but now I have some more places to send him to.

He probably just meant it was Americanized. Many Americans probably couldn't handle authentic Mexican or maybe even Chinese.
