WOW - I completely looked over those photos assuming they were rehabs. THAT's the kind of infill the city needs. Of course not every new home can be $600,000 though. There are some really cool things happening with this and the "green" infill. GO STL!

Sorry people- I don't mean to nitpick, but half of these pictures are in Marine Villa and Gravois Park, not Benton Park or Benton Park West. O'Malley's? The Lemp Brewery? Yep, that's Marine Villa. That's my neighborhood and I live a few blocks from Lemp.

It's a work in progress, but we've got a new website: www.marinevilla.org

O'Malley's is great, we had a block happy hour there recently and if I remember right they have $2 Guinness during happy hour. Also, check out Mississippi Mud on Cherokee Street if you haven't yet.

And don't forget to come to Cherokee St. on Cinco de Mayo and during the History Fair, May 19 & 20.

I had never heard of that neighborhood before.... learn something every day. I checked out the neighborhood website. I just read the history section; it has some issues. You might want to point out to the neighborhood association that the site boasts that Marine Villa is home to the "National Record of Archives" and that it used to be part of the St. Louis Commons, which was "French owned Indian Reservation Land." (What?). Doesn't represent well for your very cool neighborhood.

You're looking at the old city website. I don't know what to do to get rid of that, that's something we will look into.

Our new website doesn't have any history info, yet. But that's what I do for a living so I'm sure I can come up with something for them to put there.

There's lots of problems with the old city website, so we're transferring to the new site:

www.marinevilla.org

There's still work to be done but we're on it.

He said during the debate that the moratorium was "going away". Well, it hasn't and it won't.

Some people might be happy to know that we are challenging him for his position as the president of the Marine Villa Neighborhood Association. We are running a new board and will have an election soon. I think good things will come out of that.

Yes it's true, he's an alderman and a neighborhood association president. Don't get me started...

My only nit-pick with the house is that it could use a mansard roof above the cornice. It looks kind of truncated.

As for the roof, it matches all those mansard-less 2nd empires that lost their roofs in the tornado of 1896.

Interesting. I never thought about that, but it makes sense. Nevertheless, in my perfect world, I'd like to see all of the long-lost mansards rebuilt.

^EXACTLY my thoughts. Still, it looks darn good and not at all out of place, like the horrible "mullets". Maybe, in a short time down the road, the owners may want to add a mansard...(?)...!

No. Absolutely not.

Clearly, you aren't a gardener. Trees are the enemy of my flowers, they block sun.

Also, street trees need care, especially watering the first two years of their life. Who's gonna do that if the homeowners are not so inclined?

The turquoise house was painted cream last week in order to get it ready to sell.

While garish, I do like things like this in Benton PArk. It makes the place more funky that SOulard and Lafayette Square.
