The first phase of development at the old Army Ammunition Plant site will include a shopping center anchored by a Home Depot. The 18-acre site is located near I-70 and Goodfellow Boulevard and highly visible from the Interstate. The site has been vacant since 1998.

I spoke to Kurt Lord today of Koman Properties to consider their city properties for a business.

He told me the status of their proposal for the Army Ammunitions plant site in North City. The city has indeed selected Koman to redevelop the site, but construction is at least a year and a half off.

The site needs to be cleaned up, plus they are just beginning to solicit tenants.

As reported today by Martin Van Der Werf of the Post-Dispatch, the retail center planned for the site of the old Army Ammunition plant at Interstate 70 and Goodfellow Boulevard was approved for tax increment financing from the city. The TIF commission approved $5.6 million in TIF financing for the development, expected to be anchored by Home Depot.

I haven?t seen its picture recently on one of those urbanist blogs, but the old Army Ammunition plant at Goodfellow and I-70 (the building with the ?wings?) is one the City?s most recognizable structures. Last week, a battalion of public and private attorneys turned the title of the facility over to an SLDC agency, allowing us to market the site as a prime opportunity for retail development.

This site has been in limbo for too long. It seems like developers are always "about to break ground" on the site. I always thought the warehouse was cool looking. I picture painting a big face on the side and painting horns on the top. They could make it into a giant paintball course and call it Lil' Devil Paintball.
