From the Post-Dispatch:

"Arch park superintendent Tom Bradley warned that MVVA's proposal probably will be modified over the next three months. That's when the National Park Service, city government and others will work with MVVA and Donald G. Stastny, design-competition manager, to refine the plan, produce a budget and begin seeking private donations and government funding.

"Don't put too much stock in any one thing. This can evolve," said Bradley, who did not offer an opinion on the Memorial Drive plan."

For all of you who lose sleep at night over this - get your thoughts on paper and submit them to someone: Mayor Slay, Park Superintendent Bradley, MVVA staff, competition committee, etc.

The project is far from over, rather its just beginning-its all pretty pictures at this point.

This has been a stated fact of the competition since day one. The fear is that in the process going forward it's difficult to see new, more exciting things added. Such a process more often eliminates items due to cost, regulations, etc. We'll see...

This has been my fear all along...and I'm glad you brought it up. Things always seem to get scaled back...and with the winning proposal proposing a subtle improvement (in my honest opinion), the final result may be nothing more than a new south garage, an ice rink (doubt the parks service will sponsor/allow a beer garden), a new viewpoint in ESTL, and a lid over I-70.

I hope/pray/wish that I'm wrong.

Alex, will City to River be involved in any way concerning the lid? Will there be any input into how it is designed/constructed knowing that the lid will be removed (or filled in) for a future boulevard?

I really want to see a Mississippi pool like they had in the SOM-BIG proposal. This is BIG's signature move, as they have implemented it at waterfronts across the world. Is there a better way to bring the people to the water? I was at this presentation, and the jury absolutely loved it. Hopefully the competition managers took note.

I believe that there will be an official comment from City to River at http://www.citytoriver.org coming out soon. With the positive energy behind that effort, I can't imagine City to River not playing a role going forward.

If you search on "pool" in the MVVA narrative, you'll see that they proposed riverfront moorings for two floating pools, one on each side fo the river, on slides 10 and 11 of 256.

Totally missed that. I wonder why it wasn't more prominently featured.
