I meant to post this yesterday, but didn't get a chance. At lunch, I noticed workers were sandblasting or power spraying the Pine St facade of the Arcade. Have they started working on this project, or does anyone know what's going on?

Wow, that would be unbelievable if they've started on it. I know that the plan was to start on the Arcade as soon as the Paul Brown is finished, but I think that the PB still has quite a ways to go.

I heard that the city is power washing buildings and sidewalks downtown to get cleaned up for the Final Four. Maybe that is the explantion. BTW I also read somewhere that the Old Post Office will be open for tours during the tournament.
This would explain it-
There will be intermittent sidewalk closings around the Paul Brown and Arcade Buildings over the next several weeks. Pyramid is power washing the exteriors and the company accelerated the redevelopment schedule to look good for Final Four week.

Has Pyramid started on the Arcade yet? I noticed a sign out front, but I can't tell if any work is being done.

I asked one of the Paul Brown workmen what's up with the Arcade and he told me that crews are inside doing preliminary rehab work. It will be fully underway within the next couple months.
Is there a website for the arcade?
The lobby area in that building is awesome. I was able to peek in through one of the doors. It's run down but it still looks cool.
It will be amazing when it's finished.

This has to be the most exciting project in the city of St. Louis. The Arcade has always been one of my favorite buildings. I can remember when you could go in to the arcade to visit stores. But, I am not old enough to remember it not being shabby. Thank God they never tore down this building. Not only is it beautiful, but, it sits right at the subway station and the middle of everything. When this building is done, downtown St. Louis will be buttoned up.

I totally agree - this is the one building that I am especially excited about. I really think that re-opening the shopping arcade will bring back some upscale retail to downtown - stores like jewelers who abandoned downtown in the 80's and 90's.

I called Pyramid Co. today to ask about the Arcade Building. The person I spoke with told me that pre-sale for lofts will not begin for quite some time??.possibly late next year. They also said that prices will likely be in the $700,000 range! Pyramid?s other projects are almost completely sold out, so the Dorsa Lofts should start sales in September priced around $250,000.
$700,000!!! Oh well, I guess that leaves me out of this one. That's OK, they should be expensive.
There will be a great variety of prices including much less than $700,000 (and certainly some higher). Just keep your ear to the ground in the coming year.
There is a banner on the outside of the Arcade that says construction won't start until 2006. I wonder what is taking them so long?
Well Pyramid has a ton of projects going on. They just finished Paul Brown, are working on Bankers, Dorsa will be starting this fall, and I think Im missing another project. They may just not have the resources/finances to start until then.
It has started. It is just a very big project. There is work occuring inside the building that you can not see from the street.

If youn went on the housing tour and went to the paul brown, you could see the arcade and it was bad shape. There is significant water damage to several exterior walls, practically no roof and other issues. I think there is much tuckpointing, demolition and structural issues to take care of before things get going in full.

I'm guessing it has to do with Bankers finishing up next summer and probably into the fall. And Dorsa hasn't even started with reservations. I'm guessing thats enough to have on their plates.
