No room at the mall

The Pasta House Co. restaurant at the Saint Louis Galleria will shutter Jan. 3. The mall is expanding the food court, and "there's no room for us," said Kim Tucci, Pasta House president and co-owner. Tucci said the remodeling project was originally slated for last year, but delayed. Galleria General Manager Earl Dorsett said the expansion plans were at too early a stage to be discussed. Tucci's now scouting sites south of the Galleria on Brentwood Boulevard to locate a Pasta House Pronto restaurant.

What will go in its place? I notice it was closed over the weekend and wondered why they closed this location. Also, if they are expanding the food court, why? They already have 3 vacanies in there already and that Pasta House space is quite big.

General American building may be close to a sale

DEAD SPACE, PART 2: The St. Louis Galleria will close its dingy food court Monday for six months of renovations.

The mall promises a "one-of-a-kind new food court concept" that will include dining tables as well as "gathering rooms" with sofas, fireplaces and plasma-screen televisions. The old food court, in the basement at the center of the shopping center, has long been seen as below the standards of the rest of the high-end mall.

Marketing director Jenny Koch says all the leases with food court restaurants are being renegotiated; some might not be renewed.

The adjacent six-screen movie theater will remain open during the renovations.

Saint Louis Galleria Announces Renovation Plans

ST. LOUIS, MO, May 11, 2005 -- Saint Louis Galleria will embark on a two-part project to completely redevelop the mall's food court and refresh the existing mall common areas. Work will begin on May 16, 2005, with all work planned to be completed by November of this year.

The first element of the project is expected to result in a one-of-a-kind new food court concept that combines attractive tabletop dining areas for guests, along with relaxing gathering "rooms" that will feature sofas, fireplaces and plasma screen televisions. Also added to the new food court will be a 2,700-square-foot family lounge and restroom.

Galleria 6 Cinemas, located in the Galleria's food court, will remain open throughout the project, however all food court dining options will be unavailable during this time. Guests are encouraged to visit our other dining options for lunch or dinner - California Pizza Kitchen, The Cheesecake Factory, Fuzio Universal Pasta, Houlihan's or Saint Louis Bread Co. Also, Street Corner News has relocated to the second level above the food court and features an extended selection of snacks and light meals.

The second part of the project will consist of renovating interior and exterior mall common areas. Changes will include redesigning mall entrances, adding comfortable new seating areas, creating new directional signage in the parking lot and inside the mall, and providing some touch-ups to mall restroom finishes. The improved parking lot lighting project that was completed last fall was also part of this phase. Work done in conjunction with this phase will be done with minimal impact to our guests' shopping experience.

Also improving the shopping experience are some new retailers for 2005. Urban Outfitters, which is scheduled to open in early July, will enter the St. Louis market with their 12,600-square-foot store next to California Pizza Kitchen. Urban Outfitters features hip styles for men, women and apartment d?cor.

Landau features elegant costume jewelry and is also new to the St. Louis market. Landau opened on the first level near bebe in April. Also recently opened on the second level near Dillard's are Hot Topic and Torrid, each featuring a unique niche of clothing for teens.
