Scope of secuity changes when you have a collective group of people sharing a common passcode. Hard to police it. One policy may be to change the passcode once a week or month.
Everyone gets their own security code. It is very easy to tell who leaks their code. It will be in the logs.

@ Westgate, you cannot access the elevator or the stairwells w/ out swiping your access card. is this a common feature in lofts downtown? it seems that it would have certainly helped in this unfortunate occurence.

Same for the Meridian. Except that they didn't put a swipe card on the stairwell for some strange reason (oversight?). I suspect that will be the first order of business for the HOA, if I have anything to say about it.

The fire code prohibits "locking" the staircases. We had a similar discussion and are trying to find a way to secure them also. One of the proposals is to lock the main floor stairwell only (but the other stairwells would not be locked). Do not know if that is going to get approval.

Can anyone who lives in the Annex Lofts (or know someone who does) offer any feelings about the building?

It looks like the prices on units in this building have fallen.

http://www.cbgundaker.com/search/advanc ... 5&type=cnd

$172K from $180K for 1200 sq ft with 2 bedrooms

http://www.cbgundaker.com/search/advanc ... 0&type=cnd

$176K from $212K for 1200 sq ft with 2 bedrooms

It also looks like there's a few foreclosures.

I seem to remember 2bd/1ba units listing around $220K to $250K when the building first opened.

That second unit looks like it has a drop ceiling in the bathroom - weird.

From the MLS (not every unit is listed):

2-bed, 1-bath units originally sold for between $160K and $210K.

2-bed, 1-bath units currently on market between $176K and $225K.

2-bed, 2-bath (one story) units originally sold for between $198K and $241K.

2-bed, 2-bath (one story) units currently on market between $187K and $232K.

I'm not doubting you, because my memory sucks. However I seem to remember those less expensive units being on the first and second floors Anything 2 bedroom on the third floor and up seemed to be starting over $200K.

I wish I would have kept the pricing sheet for later reference.

That may have been later in the marketing of the units. The MLS shows several 2-bed units sold originally in the $175 - $195K range on the 4th, 5th and 6th floors.
