Sort of like SAB Miller in Chicago. What a slap in the face that must be to Milwaukee. Only thing worse would be in ABINBEV moved there WHQ to Chicago.
*What I really wanted to post on was the fact that I saw a first last night during the Deadbirds game. I saw an ad for Natural Light. I don't think I have ever seen that in my life. Has AB put out ads for Natty Light in the past? I can't recall that in my lifetime. Guess ABindebt is going to promote Natty a bit. I haven't seen much promotion of the Michelob brands since the takeover. Maybe I just don't watch enough TV.

No, SABMiller is in London, and I would expect them to stay there.

I recall occasionally seeing Natty ads when I was growing up. I think their slogan was, "It's a natural...Natural Light" or something like that.
Maybe Keystone and Beast are cutting into Natty's market share and A-B feels the need to go on the offensive.
No, thank God!!! I watched it on TV for a few innings and found something better to do, sleep.
I saw the ad for Natty Light on TV, FSN.
I was shocked. Does anyone here recall seeing a TV ad for Natty Light prior to last night or recent times? That must be one of ABinbev's new flagship brands.....

I thought I read at some point a couple of years ago that Natty Light was A-B's fifth most popular beer. But previously the only ads I ever saw were billboards in college towns.
If anything A-BInBev sees the growing sales of lower priced but niche "cool" brands like PBR, Stag, Hamms etc and wants to cash in on that wave. Especially during a down economy.
Heard from an AB union employee that I know, said that management has approached employees in the plant stating that a pretty significant amount of production is being moved to the Fort Collins plant. The product being made here now is being shipped to the Western U.S. anyway. It is, apparently, more cost effective to ship out of Fort Collins. I would highly doubt that this move will put a significant dent in the brewing operation here, but it is definitely not a good thing. As a result of this move, some employees are being asked to work less hours and some will get laid off. He also mentioned that white collar employees continue to be let go on a much smaller, less noticable level. I don't really want to think about where AB Inc. will be in 20 years. It is a scary thought. Moral must be at rock bottom down a Pestalozzi St. Even though I understand the concept of the global economy, it is sad and makes me angry, that such a great American/St. Louis company is being dismantled before our very eyes.
I've been buying Miller High Life. It looks so good in the fridge when you have alot of them in those clear bottles just glowing in there. Kind of like the old Dr. Dre video when he opens the fridge and it is stacked with nothing but 40s. Wow. But I'll drink anything.
I understand that AB "did it to themselves" and I agree. But large bonuses to a handful of people while cutting back in other areas just bothers me. Brito likely has no penis and if he does it is probably unusually small.

Bothers me too. But that's just the kind of "market efficiency" we're all supposed to love, right? You know, like good American patriotic capitalists?
If our St. Louis plant gets shut down, then I can't say I'm completely surprised.
Most of time, you sell your business to a non-native owner (with no ties to the city), they will have no reason to keep the headquarters here and a move is not unheard of.
The exception being the Blues (because Checketts has kept them here), but obviously hockey is much different than beer.
^ I do not rule out a move of the headquarters. That is likely down the road. I don't see production stopping here anytime soon. However, in the distant future, nothing can be ruled out. The buildings are very outdated and inefficient. The equipment is state of the art. As you have seen, moving equipment was not at all a big deal in the case of the Hazelwood Ford plant and the Chrysler plant in Fenton. As I've said many times before, I dread the day that complex is no longer a brewery. I would assume, at some point, the Lemp's couldn't imagine their city within a city would ever be what it is today. Let's pray that someone at ABI sees the value in tradition and history and keeps that complex state of the art.

I can't drink High Life. That's what I drank back in my "stupid teenager" days, and now the sight of beer in clear bottles gives me miserable, puke-filled, room-spinning flashbacks. :smt095
Just curious, does anyone know what the total number of AB employees are in St. Louis? Is Sunset Hills gone/moved/consolidated on Pestalozzi? What was the pre-takeover number versus current versus projected Blue Ocean numbers. Just trying to look at the number of job losses that are a direct result of the takeover versus where AB would be had Blue Ocean actually become reality. I then want to compare those numbers to today's actual numbers.
Any insider have the 'actual' numbers? I've heard many guesstimates, but I want to know what the real figures are. Thanks in advance.
"It wasn't immediately clear how long approval might take. Several Missouri politicians have expressed concerns about the merger — especially how it would affect the approximate 6,000 people employed by Anheuser-Busch in St. Louis."
At this point, the projection is 2000 job losses at AB since the takeover. Does that sound accurate??? I wonder when/if they will ever hit bottom with the layoffs. Our fine friends on stltoday seem to claim people get shown the door there daily.
This is a smart decision that many thought was inevitable. Boeing did something similar after the McDonnell-Douglas / Boeing merger. NYC is an excellent, central location for ABI WHQ.
