The former owners of the American Furnace Company building on Hampton had wanted to demolish the structure for a new gas station. It appears they sold the property. Per this month's preliminary Preservation Board agenda, the new owner (Rainieri Construction Co.) is applying for listing on the National Register of Historic Places ... likely in advance of renovations supported by historic tax credits. Anyone know the plans?

Shoot! This stretch of Hampton could really have used another gas station or two. Right now there's only a BP, Mobil, Phillips 66 and Circle K. Oh well. Maybe the plans are for a liquor store?

^ With some minor alterations, that dilapidated building could accommodate a gas station!

The Kaldi's roasting facility in The Grove is looking for a new home.

Don't the coffee people like to stay in the Grove because of some unique infrastructure that's needed for roasting?

^ I was thinking the old paper business building on Manchester that Green Street Properties recently bought as soon as Kaldi was brought up. I believe Alex noted that their is something in the works but not far enough along to post it.

Green Street Properties seem to be selective about their projects but also seem to have a tenant waiting in the wing

^^ No.

^ Renard would have been great for Kaldi's - alas, it's going to be a new Urban Chestnut Brewing Company location: http://nextstl.com/central-corridor/urb ... -the-grove

I notice this morning the Carpenter's union has erected their strike banner in addition to the current banner that has been there for the last couple of months. The current strike banner reads "Shame on Raineri Construction". Why are the unions so mad at Raineri Construction company? The only thing I can think of is they are using non-union labor to renovate the American Furnace building. If this is so, isn't this their perogative.

Definitely. But it's also within the Union's prerogative (and 1st Amendment Rights) to protest the use of non-union labor.

Rainieri is a non-union construction company, so it's not that they're specifically protesting the renovation of the American Furnace building using non-union labor, it's Rainieri in general (who as I understand it, own the building). The unions were often outside the old Rainieri offices in Southampton, too.

The building was just listed on the National Register of Historic Places on February 2. Raineri Construction owns the building and operates out of the building as well. I wonder what they have planned??

105.7 is over at the Union Station annex.
