I'm not going to cry if the cheap, HUD infill shown in the video comes down, but abandoned historic buildings have the potential to add value to the community in the future if they are preserved.

What do you mean? Each ward has 11,400 people.

An irony is that if people move out your ward gets bigger.

Tough call on demo. I believe we need to be much more proactive in preserving vacant historic stock and putting them back into re-use, but at the same time there are a lot of buildings that have deteriorated to the point of being a serious and harmful blight upon the community. Sounds like this alderman though may want to be using a less than cautious approach though to demo.

Try getting off the computer and into the neighborhood. Moore has been dealing with what he calls "dollhouses" for years. These are the buildings where the insides show because brickthieves have knocked down the outside walls. Add to that the huge amount of urban flight and you have massive vacancy.

It's been said before, and in this case, maybe it means it more than ever....want to prevent demo? Invest.

EDIT:

The tone of the title of this thread and some of the comments really are offensive. Alderman Moore does not want to "tear down his ward". What an ignorant, offensive, rude comment! Whoever posts such a thing has no idea the difficulty in being an alderman (or resident) in such a distressed community. Get a clue.
