I [very hastily] took this picture yesterday of an addition underway in the Gate District. It's a house on Lafayette clad in white stone. To the east of the house is an older one-story building with garage bays, while to the west is this careful, one-story addition. Does anybody know anything about this? Is it a home or something else?

The house is on the north side of Lafayette at the intersection with Oregon.

It is a single family home. It looks awesome. Keep you eye out for more development along this stretch of Lafayette Avenue soon. This is such an important connection between Jefferson and Grand. This street has lots of potential for good infill.

I would love to see Lafayette become a showplace for innovative modern infill. There's plenty of bad examples to the north of it, but Lafayette could become a really cool street with a little encouragement.

totally agree, with the Gate District not under a historic code, the possibilites are endless for mod infill. All the more reason to keep a close eye on what is being planned (no more modular homes with suburban setbacks). Again, look for a few more quality developments in the near future across the street from this property. I'd really like to see the Garavaglia's building switch hands and get developed. That would be a big catalyst.

I agree with both of you- Lafayette Avenue should be a showcase for the best of St. Louis architecture- historic AND modern architecture. So much potential there.

It appears there is another home being constructed directly across Layayette from the home mentioned in this thread.

town homes? seems really big for a single-family.
