Replacement is not amazing architecturally but it adds significant density, could have been taller or nicer...  I guess I almost never really understand the significance of MCM architecture.  I wouldn't have argued against this one.

There was also a time when people didn't understand the significance of Romanesque, Italianate, or Beaux Arts architecture (for example). So they tore it all down and replaced it with whatever was popular at the time. Today we regret their short-sightedness.

Demolition is complete and a sizable hole has been excavated.  Not sure when construction is supposed to officially start.

Didn't realize this included the lot next to Straub's as well.  The lot consolidation goes in front of the ARB on 6/20 and the BoA on 6/27.

^Well, the demo was dumber than dirt, but at least that's a nice proposal. Finally. If they actually build that.

Construction has started so pretty sure that’s the final design.

That building is the better looking sibling to the ugly senior apartments they're building on FPA.

I said "better".  Not "Good".  Still a shame...

Blah to me but I guess it could be worse. It’s a bit lighter brown than the picture shows

That's not terrible. The undulating front reminds me of the old Famous. Nice gesture. :-)

Not crazy about the color, but other than that it really needs some kind of cornice.

Like the lines. Little too much contrast right now but patina will help that. I think red brick is always the way to go in StL. Overall though, I’d love to see that type of building up and down gravois and kingshighway in the city.

^Stick something similar to that on the northeast corner of Kingshighway and Chipewa and my little child's heart will squee.

There were sooo many facade iterations done for this project. Glad it's wrapped up.

It’s ugly.

Always was and still is a crime they took down the previous building at all.
