A BB King's Restaurant and Blues Club is coming to the building.... that's a rather big deal:

This should be a great addition for Grand Center. It will be interesting to compare how this place fares compared to an environment like Beale St. which is like an urban enclave.

Any updates on this project? Are the HEC or BB King's being built out? Any signs of renovations happening on the upper floors?

I haven't walked by, so I might be wrong. But I don't think construction has started. Lawrence group closed on the building around December, and the city approved zoning changes late that month. A few likely tenants have been mentioned. But I don't think the actual (construction) building permits have been submitted and approved.

^ Maybe that parking lot will become the "apartment tower" Geoff and Alex were talking about.

For Phase 2 on the parking lot, they're envisioning midrise apartments wrapped around structured parking.

I don't think that is the item Geoff is working on; the plans for this have been broadly known for awhile, so I would be disappointed if it is. However, keep an eye on other property in GC. Like the GC-owned property on the other side of Grand. Also, Geoff didn't say "tower," so just keep that in mind if the news isn't for 15+ stories. Who knows, maybe it is a complex of 4 mid-rises... fine by me! (I also heard that he is waiting on the story to drive Gateway City mad.)

Shoot, maybe he didn't say "tower." I mean, as long as it's something good, it doesn't need to be tall. However, a sleek glass 20+ story building, especially DT, would be awesome.

It's a story about a really awesome Steak and Shake. With parking and a drive through and everything. It'll be awesome!

But he's waiting for renderings.

^ it'll be nice to finally be able to move that sucker over to the Under Construction category in the 2014 Projects thread. Action has been rather quiet in recent months but I'm hoping for a few more year-end gifts.... Santa making a major downtown announcement would be great.

PostDec 09, 2014#68

Missouri Theater will be getting the BB King's and the Flying Cow Yougurt will also move over from Locust. The building won't open until 2016 but at least it looks like a go.

The article also mentions the Fox will proceed with constructing the parking garage on the current surface lot behind the University Plaza Apartments once the main theater season is over in May.

Great news. And great to see a restored Missouri sign in the rendering (and perhaps the retro marquee will be for the BB King's?):

With projects both announced and not yet announced, that new parking garage may actually get some serious use. I think Grand Center is about to turn a corner.

^ Maybe a year behind schedule, but that's okay if the progress continues. Having those SLUsters living in the neighborhood in that off-campus project should be a shot in the arm for businesses as well.

From the BJ article,

"Vince Schoemel president of Grand Center Inc., the agency that runs the arts district, said in an interview that the Missouri Theater is the last vacant historic building there."

So ...... the Palladium is ....... chopped liver?
It just amazes me that an arts/entertainment agency will not even acknowledge the value of the Palladium. Anyhoo, good news on the MT building.

^^ Grand Center Inc's territory stops at Delmar, but their signage and proposed streetscape enhancements go all the way to Page. That way they can take credit for any success north of Delmar without having to be actually held accountable for that (more than) half of the neighborhood...
