This is getting replaced next year at a tune of $25,000,000 its one of the most critical bridges on the modot list of things to do.
This would be a good time to give input if we want to be heard on how that stretch will look. It was suppose to be replaced in 2018 but with additional revenue modot bumped it into SFY 2017 which starts july 1 2016.

I-44 will get messy next year...Poplar west bound bridge is getting picked up and moved and a new lane built in between the west and east bound bridges...with other repairs going on this should buy the bridge another 20-30 years instead of a $300-400M replacement....all repairs are about $75M with Illinois paying half.
this bridge has drawn interest from all over the world do to the fact that its steel plates under the driving surface and nobody can find a right mix of asphalt that will stick to the steel for more than one summer...but i think they finally found a concrete mix that should hold up 5-7 years

Long Term, I wish they would just eliminate this section of I-44 and instead send I-44 South on I-55 to a new bridget just South of AB that matches the I-70 bridge on the North side.

This is a highway I really wish was sunken.

My understanding is that the viaduct is being rehabbed instead of replaced.
