What is going in on the west side of Jefferson in the 2100 block? Some Victorian buildings were torn down, I'd say at least 2 of the, that were attached including a corner store multi-story.

Jefferson Ave just can't get a break. Even during the real estate boom, things continued to go downhill. I didn't see this demolition requested in the Cultural Resources agenda and it's hard for me to believe CR would give the seal of approval to this.

I believe that is where South Side Day Nursery is expanding. I think there's a thread or a blog article about it on nextstl somewhere but I couldn't find it. Anyone have the link handy?

If this is what is being constructed at Russell and Jefferson on the SW corner, then it's MUCH taller than I expected. The brick facade is faux preformed pieces.

This is a big improvement over the world's largest ATM/shuttered Taco Bell.

Another plus for this intersection is timed pedestrian signals and re-striped crosswalks. We worked with our alderperson to get this done, and man does it make a difference. People use Jefferson like an interstate highway and the signals give people confidence to safely cross. With McKinley and now this ECC, there a lot of people/kids crossing here. Much safer!

I can grab some this afternoon. The building is down an alley from me. It looks okay, but personally I'm not a fan. It's huge and seems out of place, IMO. And it blocked my view of the Jefferson/Russell light from the back porch.

^ It certainly is large.... I suppose whether a fan of the building or not, it provides a great service to the neighborhood. I noticed the old elementary school/holistic homeless services rehab nearby is proceeding along as well.

^^ Mark, funny you mentioned the use of Jefferson as an interstate.... last evening we were heading down to SoCo and the exit from 44E to 55S was at a standstill so we got off on Jefferson and enjoyed the drive down to Broadway before picking up 55. We don't really drive Jefferson much so it was nice to see.... it reconfirmed my belief that putting solid surface transit down Jefferson is a no-brainer for moving Saint Louis forward.

I like how it comes right up to Jefferson.

The building on the NE corner is for sale too and if someone does something decent with it then this intersection could be night and day from just two years ago.

Why on earth does the two story section face the parking lot rather than Jefferson?
