What JJG said. This wasn't gobbled from anywhere in the region, or even in the Midwest. Maybe Mountain does something little like it in Chicago, but it was very much my impression that the closest comparable site is on the coast. This isn't a venue. It's studios, shops, and warehouses. It's a production company, more or less. Swift won't play there. She'll probably never set foot there. But her sound engineers and designers will. Her lighting designers. Her rigging supers. Her Tour managers. They don't have shows there. They build them there and send them out into the world to play at venues like Madison Square Garden and Soldier Field. My understanding is that the performers will in fact interact with the facility. All the work you describe will be done here but I think it is also set up to rehearse the full performances prior to taking them on the road
^ Reading the comments about this on social media, I was under the same impression. Artists will be here and this serves as both a starting point and a central hub for their nationwide tours.

^^Sorry, you're probably correct. Now that you mention it I recall them saying there would be some quite substantial sound stages. But I was trying to reinforce your point that it's not a venue, and it's not stealing anything from the city. Quite the opposite. It's attracting something altogether new and different, albeit not something public facing. Sorry for the confusion.

Now, one might think that it makes more sense to have this closer to the stadiums where some of these high profile acts with lots of AV tech to test, but water under the bridge.
I think for TV & Film it's a decent location, close to SUS which is typically the private jet runway, no?

^ Yup, right next to SUS and centrally located in the continental US were two big selling points. This really is unique, I don't think there's anything like it on this scale.

^^I'm not sure if it makes much difference if you're a block from the stadium or ten miles from the stadium if you're talking about moving several dozen truckloads worth of gear. The driving time is going to be pretty trivial next to the load in to the venue. The really nice deal, however, is it will reinforce the use of the dome as a tour starting point, since it will be easy to get back to the studio if (when) you need to fix something. I'll be curious to see if smaller tours try to make use of that same proximity and start using other local venues as their starting point. (There are quite a lot more arena tours than stadium tours, and more still playing theatres and clubs. And if you can build a rock tour, you can probably build a broadway tour too. The style is different, but it's still lighting, sound, sets, and costumes.) Makes me miss my rock and roll days.

IIRC it's in a fairly rural area like 40 miles north of Lancaster PA.
Hersheypark Arena and Hersheypark Stadium used to be popular rehearsal spots. But then the Hersheypark Stadium stopped being used after people at the park could hear Jon Bon Jovi chewing out Richie Sambora. Or the tense Pop Mart rehearsals for U2 where the rest of the band was getting really irritated with Bono.

I figured Atlanta would have something similar, but not on the coast. Here is the largest studio in the Atlanta region.

The bad take was building in a flood plain, just like how it was a bad take to build a city below sea level and it's a bad take to move to Florida. Reality is that we all will end up paying for the mistakes of developers who decided developing the valley was a good idea.
I don't disagree. St. Charles city is now unfortunately planning to do the same. Cottleville has to be one of the worst offenders. Much of Cottlville Trails is being built in what until recently wasn't just floodplain, but floodway. There's another subdivision under consideration right now in the same boat supposedly with base prices in the $700s. I drive by Gateway Studios regularly. The parking lot has been very active, place is lit up & looks like it is being used. I saw large trucks there the other night. I think this place is open for business. I wonder where any celebs that utilize the studios will stay, eat & possibly hang out or if they will basically get everything they need at the studio. I'd be interested to find out (whenever the studios are fully open) what entertainers are utilizing the facility. Seems crazy that world famous people could be hanging out in the Valley in this odd looking building off the highway in a Midwest flood plain.
