I hate when the second worst guy you know is right. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Any other metaphors for a trash Senator?

Anyways… this is a good idea.

Gateway Arch legislation from Sen. Schmitt aims to boost private events

https://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/new ... -bill.html

“Federal legislation introduced Wednesday by Schmitt would allow the national park's nonprofit conservancy to host outside events at the Arch and its grounds. Currently, the Gateway Arch Park Foundation must register for events with the National Park Service under its own name, since the government cannot enter into agreements with outside agencies to host events at the Arch.”

“Schmitt's office said that demand for private events at the Arch has grown in recent years.”

“The bill would cover all Gateway Arch National Park property, which includes the Arch grounds, the visitor's center and the Old Courthouse, along with any other NPS-owned buildings.

The Arch Park Foundation would be allowed to charge a fee "to offset wear and tear" under Schmitt's bill, with his office estimating $780,000 in generated annual revenue for maintenance, administration and staffing. It would also save the time of NPS staff, his office said.”

I guess on this site it’s ok to offer your personal opinion towards “one side” of the political spectrum??? Why not just post the story instead of your requisite commentary before? But at least you admitted it’s a good idea.

Because it’s no longer one side bs. One side, guessing your side, is completely off the rails. I’m not picking on Mitt Romney or John McCain here. The right side is completely loopy, history will recognize it, so I’m calling it what it is.

Also, it’s not his good idea. People in the City and Arch stakeholders, all likely democrats, crafted and gave him the idea.

Personally, I'm just going to say the thing and give absolutely zero shits. Anything at all, ever, that includes "Senator Eric Schmitt" is automatically a hard pass no. He is a verified white supremist. And otherwise, just a general all around instigating P.O.S.

Stay mad. 👋

This could be a good idea, but i would hate to see "regular people" turned away from the Arch because of a private event. Elitism has no place at a National Park.

The Visitor center closes at 6PM, Old Courthouse at 5PM.  I think you have a huge opportunity here to allow Non profit galas, corporate events, etc. This is a good idea.

While the arch will remain the smallest national park, don’t be surprised if it got a little bigger in years to come.

Are we teasing I-44 going away/getting fully covered or them removing LKS and expanding to the riverfront? Or something else entirely?

There was talk about including some space in East St. Louis riverfront. Which I think would be a mistake. Should be a City there. Also on my lottery list.

Malcolm Martin is a nice park already, could bring back the geyser and add some amenities. Also makes it more likely they would be incentivized to do something more interesting and productive with the Eads Bridge than a mostly useless car side road

I think there still is a small development hope on the near east side of the river but we might have reached a point where it will all be empty before someone comes in to buy it all at once and makes it all data and fulfillment centers

This is the first I've heard of the Kiener Plaza refresh, anybody know what they are doing to it?

Amazing news... I hate that hearing "study" gets me a little frustrated... but I know that's how things work. Let's hope it all moves quick!

A little too vague for my liking, will removing I-44 between the Stan Span & Poplar Street Bridge be studied? Or just a bit more tunnel?

Wish the would go for the low hanging fruit of demolishing the raised section of freeway between Wash Ave and Cass Ave believe.   Make those intersections at grade intersections.  Near northside/Convention Space is reconnected /better connected with Lacledes Landing.   Add in a few renderings of future NBA stadium and possibilities of connected neighborhood for appeal. Knocking down old bridges & paving a blvd a lot more cost effective than trying build and or expand a lid, add tunnel, or lower a freeway to get into an extended tunnel/lid.  Plus, I assume some of the traffic count is going to disburse downtown so the numbers are impact of thru traffic most be less north of Wash Ave vs south of Wash Ave (but that is pure speculation)

Anyone with good MoDOT insight.  They are above all about freeways but within the city they seem to be open to reduce footprint, possibly removing ramps, relenquishing property and so on.  I really think that their is a group within MoDOT that sees the opportunity of less is also the opportunity for less headaches, less maintenance and future replacement costs considering the infrastructure itself is more than subbase, some pavement,  maybe a few guardrail here & there and mowing ditches.

^Removing the elevated I-44 would also do wonders for the future of the mansion house towers. Having visited someone living in them, the sound from the highway was loud.

If the gondola comes back it should leave from the millennium site. It would be a great anchor for the development and would have fantastic views. The gondola needs to be a monument and an international icon itself.
