Delmar Wabash Railway Station

What will be done to this historic depot ?

It hasn't been opened to the public since February 1970 when the Norfolk and Western Railway ended it's passenger service.

I would like to see it become, similar to what Ferguson has done with their Wabash station, both a railroad museum and MetroLink stop.

The vision is for it to be the main entrance to the Delmar station.

I always thought it was a shame this treasure wasn't a part of the Metrolink Station at the site. Wouldn't it be great to get off the train and come up steps or an elevator and exit through the front door?

With the new trolley scheduled to come through, I think this would be a perfect time to incorporate the building into a redesign of the station. The potential TOD along the route would provide an amazing sense of place with the Loop down the road to the west and the park just to the south.

Delmar Station should be THE icon of the East Loop just like U-City Hall is the icon of its own area.

I am a big fan of adding an elevator to the south side of Delmar. Unfortunately the new Delmar bridge doesn't look like it's long enough (Metrolink ROW wide enough) to accommodate one. And with the addition of the Trolley it would be even harder to lengthen the bridge. Short-sighted as usual. Hope I'm wrong.

I'm sure something could be configured. It would be absolutely ridiculous to have redevelopment in the area and just have the station sit empty. I guess it could be used as something else, but what? I still think it would be great to get off the train, go up some stairs and exit the front doors onto a revitalized Delmar.

Wasn't Edwards also thinking of a restaurant there? Also, does anyone remember that proposal for the food market/food hub that I believe had its epicenter at the Dobbs Tire.... that looked pretty interesting but I can't recall if it included the station or not.

I really think the small farmers market was the best reuse idea for that property. From what I understand WashU owns the property. I wonder if they already intended to have Global Foods at that point and that is why they killed the idea. If you tore it down and built new there are obviously other higher uses for it but as far as reuse I thought it was pretty innovative.

It needs to be the main station for the trolley. It should have been the Metro station to begin with.

I think there's a year or two in between those events. The cited reason was that WashU was not willing to white box the building for them.

Yes but they also alluded to diverting the funds to another residential "project" and exploring the "retail environment" in the loop. There is nothing shady about choosing to spend your money elsewhere, I just wonder how well they knew what they wanted the loop project to look like and decided to box out potential competition. Its perfectly their prerogative, though I think its justified to complain about the vacancy at such a prime location. Build or sell.

Projects recommended for TAP funding at the January 4th, 2023 TPC meeting at East-West Gateway. I highlighted a few that could be significant.

Public comment will run from January 27th to February 15th with a final recommendation to the Board of Directors on March 29th.

Metro is exploring the Wabash Station for “future transit uses” as a single entry/exit point as part of the Secure Platform Program…

The Cumulative Federal Funds number is $16M. Does that mean moving the platforms? It'd be great to have a center olatform with elevator access from the Wabash station and on the south side if Delmar. It irks me the Delmar bridge was built too narrow to accomodate that. Two entrances are prob incompatible with their annoying security strategy of fewer access points. I also wonder if they're eying the Cresent Plumbing site for structured parking. Sure hope WashU, Bi State, et al are working on plans akin to what's shown in the SD and TOD plans.
