The individual or group that opens a Euro-centric bar with tasty Euro dishes next to Centene Stadium is going to make good money.dweebe wrote:Were you guys really expecting a hard core purist, totally European-centric football only place that was so absolutist that they wouldn't even carry Budweiser plus refused to show dirty American sports like hockey and baseball? Not sure if you read the article, but this place will be opening at around 5am for Premier League games.RockChalkSTL wrote:The individual or group that opens a Euro-centric bar with tasty Euro dishes next to Centene Stadium is going to make good money.dweebe wrote:Were you guys really expecting a hard core purist, totally European-centric football only place that was so absolutist that they wouldn't even carry Budweiser plus refused to show dirty American sports like hockey and baseball? There should be a bar where Premier League and Bundesliga fans such as myself have a place to watch games from morning until night. I would love to watch a Euro soccer game at the bar in the morning and then head over to Centene Stadium for a St. Louis City SC game. That would be epic.
This bar should show Cardinals and Blues and whatever else. It should have Budweiser. I'm not asking for a pretentious bar. I'm asking for a new incredible spot to watch early morning international soccer -- and yeah, I kind of want it in the shadow of what we're establishing here locally.

Certainly am not asking for that. Just a couple of stinky dive bars that feel authentic and organic rather than slapping me in the face with soccer kits on the wall and $8 drafts because a stadium just popped up next to it.dweebe wrote: ↑Jun 08, 2022Were you guys really expecting a hard core purist, totally European-centric football only place that was so absolutist that they wouldn't even carry Budweiser plus refused to show dirty American sports like hockey and baseball? One thing they'll need to do is their homework to ensure that they have whatever channels/streaming services are showing European matches and they should know schedules. They should never say "we can't get that game" or "huh?" unless it's some sort of super obscure match between two poorly performing Premiere league teams that nobody in America can get unless they have a VPN.RockChalkSTL wrote: ↑Jun 08, 2022The individual or group that opens a Euro-centric bar with tasty Euro dishes next to Centene Stadium is going to make good money.dweebe wrote:Were you guys really expecting a hard core purist, totally European-centric football only place that was so absolutist that they wouldn't even carry Budweiser plus refused to show dirty American sports like hockey and baseball? Honestly I think this is the type of place that is more likely to pop up once the team (and the surrounding soccer environment) gets going or at least is a lot closer, I don't think it'd be something that gets a press release nearly a year out from the MLS team's first game. Probably the closest we have right now (but for hockey and baseball, not soccer) is Maggie O'Brien's, I'd love something similar showing soccer games.bwcrow1s wrote: ↑Jun 08, 2022Certainly am not asking for that. Anyways, hope its successful, just depressing we have nothing granular and individual immediately around Enterprise Center and Union Station.
1000% this. This whole thread isgoat314 wrote: ↑Jun 08, 2022Honestly, I find it weird that MLS fans would want to pattern themselves after European fans. I'd rather have something uniquely American that is representative of what St. Louis is as a city.dweebe wrote: ↑Jun 08, 2022Were you guys really expecting a hard core purist, totally European-centric football only place that was so absolutist that they wouldn't even carry Budweiser plus refused to show dirty American sports like hockey and baseball? I agree, I don’t get the hate here. It’s a soccer themed bar across from a soccer stadium within a giant tourist trap (Union Station). Seems pretty on point to me. If it’s not your thing just don’t go there.GoHarvOrGoHome wrote: ↑Jun 09, 2022There is just as much a place for establishments like this as there is for Amsterdam Taverns and whatnot. The more soccer bars the better IMO, it just further builds the culture

You can't say "zero" if one or both teams haven't scored: it's nil or nil-nil.eee123 wrote: ↑Jun 09, 2022It's not that bad. At least the release didn't mention a "drink program" among other pretentiousness. We do need more dive bars. The hard times lounge was great.
Not really a soccer guy but I don't get why soccer requires we use British words for everything like pitch, kit, clean sheet, etc. when we have American English words for all of that. That plus the dumb Brit verb tense (Stl are winning).
Are we going to say a 2:30 game (sorry, match) is at half two?
