I'm pretty sure The Copper Hinge closed for good some time ago. Their space sure looks empty.
Moving sign up for Pasta House. Moving to the former Giovanni’s on Ladue road a mile away.
Renovation work in underway in the old Cicero's space. I have no idea if they have a tenant, though.
New website for the University City Loop. Note, this only includes the area west of Skinker. Alas, the divide continues.

Well, where does the Loop technically end?
I think we all appreciate that Delmar is receiving some love as it moves eastward into the city, but boundaries are boundaries - even if nobody abides by them or calls them by their proper name.
For instance, Amighetti's is preparing to move back to The Hill - or so they say. But the old Henneke Hardware building is actually in the Southwest Garden neighborhood, as are Cunneto's, Urzi's, The Hill Cigar, and Park Avenue Coffee's "Hill" location. Taco Circus mentions all the time about how they are on The Hill. But nope. They're not.

No, this is just a petty turf war. U City is trying to steer people west of Skinker to protect it's tax revenue. It's logical, considering the reality of the City/County divorce, but it's just another example of how this 150-year-old division continues to hold us back as a region.
Here's an inclusive promo for both sides of The Loop, from Explore St. Louis, which promotes both City and County as a convention/meeting/tourist destination:

Instead of duplicating what's already existing (typical fragmentation waste), they could have put these resources into the 3rd ward.

A merger of St. Louis City and County absolutely needs to happen.
Why did we give up as a region after Better Together? I know that that proposal ended up being crooked and wrong, but it had a lot of good ideas and I hope something similar - and something more transparent - can come back and at least gets its day on the ballot.

The Board of Aldermen weren't interested in filling the city's spot on the Board OF Freeholders.
What framer said. The Loop absolutely extends past Skinker and into the City. I don't think anyone would say the Pageant isn't on the Loop...
Momentary circumstance focus and parochialism is like the blood that flows through the arteries/veins of St. Louis' atherosclerotic mindset. There is real growth opportunity coming to the eastern portion of the Loop. Development that will continue to provide new density, dynamic new construction and newly renovated spaces that will further draw interest eastward. Surely then everyone will embrace the "Loop" as one. A signal of a backward City involves limited belief in the historically depressed communities (City) until it's successful. Please St. Louis . . . let's stop this insanity and work together.
Note U City passed in its opportunity for "Development that will continue to provide new density, dynamic new construction and newly renovated spaces" in denying the redevelopment of the Harvard-Delmar school and the now temporary police HQ as well as calling off limits the north Loop parking lot in the Parkview Gardens plan.

The trouble is that everything has both popular and government/official definitions, and neither pays much attention to the other. "The Loop" in popular use is an organic neighborhood surrounding what used to be turnaround loop at the end of a trolley line. The boundaries of University City are official. The Hill is both an arbitrary and official thing of city government whose origin and meaning are lost to me and an organic neighborhood. These two things are not coterminus, and it's a bit unreasonable to expect folks to care much about an official government definition that has no meaning to anyone not working for city government. Carondelet is a great example. It was a city. After it was annexed by the city it retained some of its character as a distinct and fairly well understood neighborhood. When the city built a park on the boundaries of that neighborhood they assigned that name to it. Later, when the city decided official neighborhoods were needed they gave that name to the neighborhood. Later still when they decided 27 wasn't enough (a thoroughly ridiculous decision in such a small city) they assigned the name to the neighborhood around the park rather than the area that had once been the city, thus placing most or all of what had historically been the city of Carondelet outside Carondelet. Naturally, nobody much cares and everyone who predates the current definition still calls it Carondelet. (And quite a lot of people born after, but not in city government or conversant with internet boards.)KansasCitian wrote: ↑Jan 12, 2021Well, where does the Loop technically end?

Boundaries are artificial. Good neighborhoods are not. The best neighborhoods are always a tad nebulous. The Loop is a darn fine neighborhood.
. . . But I wouldn't expect University City to look beyond its parochial interests towards some kind of regional cooperation. After all it is in St. Louis.
Not sure how meaningful this is, but Joe Edwards has resigned as Board Chair of the Loop Special Business District.
My guess would be mid to late 60s. I doubt any older than that.quincunx wrote: ↑Feb 14, 2021How old is he?
I think at least 70. If he started Blueberry Hill straight out of college in 1972.
Subterranean is moving to the old Plowsharing space - will double their square feet - Impressive considering they cut the store in half a few years ago

The building that used to have Cicero's is getting new windows on the ground floor. The Cicero's space is cleared out. It looks like they've put a door at the corner. Anyone know if something is going in there?
Rumor in the 'hood is that a sushi joint is moving in. Just a rumor, though.
I grabbed a pic a couple of days ago. The first floor space looks modern with new windows and the awnings removed. I couldn’t tell 100%, but it appeared a portion of the space facing Delmar (to the East) may be subdivided.
Here's more info on the renovation, for those interested in the nitty-gritty (this project begins on page 48):
