Heard from a friend that Square is looking to trim office space in CORTEX in light of a large share of the workforce shifting to work from home as well as their taking over of the PD building. Take this with a grain of salt of course.
I figured they were moving out of cortex completely once their space in the PD building was ready. Sounds like that wasn’t the case though.
^ I was also under the impression that they would be leaving Cortex completely once the PD building came online...

Square will be leaving Cortex completely once we move to old P-D. I think what you might have heard from your friend is that Square has not renewed it's lease in the Cortex 1 building.

^ No news about Cortex. Midas expects their $47 million hotel in Clayton to break ground later this year though.
$40M building permit application submitted for the apts at Duncan and Boyle.
I'm surprised since it was put on the back burner a while ago. But it also makes some sense since interest rates are low enough.quincunx wrote: ↑Jun 19, 2020$40M building permit application submitted for the apts at Duncan and Boyle.
I still preferred this design. Especially the double height storefront retail.
This image of Duncan is close to reality. Soon there will be three good-sized buildings going up simultaneously.
(sorry for my non-existent computer skills, but you get the idea)

^^^ I was just about to say that. This stretch of Duncan is going to have some major construction going on. It will be almost unrecognizable in a.couple years.
That apartment building site doesn't look like it's going to have much of a staging area either, so maybe Cortex willl have three tower cranes up at the same time, possibly more if one of the other projects use two...

I see that, after nearly two decades since Cortex development began, they still haven't managed to remove the 19th century electrical distribution technology throughout our regional center for bleeding-edge technology...

I’ve looked into burying it throughout campus when I was doing planning for the district. It’s ridiculously expansive. Up to like $2 to 4m per mile
If only we didn't have to keep spending money running new lines on the edges of the region.
And how much has the city and Cortex spent on infrastructure throughout the district, in two decades?dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Jun 29, 2020I’ve looked into burying it throughout campus when I was doing planning for the district. It’s ridiculously expansive. Up to like $2 to 4m per mile
$2-4 million / mile seems pretty reasonable given the negative impression it creates.

I don’t think the City has spent any money. The district partners have and I think they rather spent it on more worthwhile things.urbanitas wrote: ↑Jun 29, 2020And how much has the city and Cortex spent on infrastructure throughout the district, in two decades?dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Jun 29, 2020I’ve looked into burying it throughout campus when I was doing planning for the district. Crane is up for the Neuroscience Building site. Good times.
