Absolutely UNACCEPTABLE. All of them should be fired, immediately. This sh*t infuriates me...

^ I always wondered how Metro was spending so much $ on contracting security patrols out to St. Louis County, but very rarely do you ever see a cop walking a beat on a train or platform. I guess this explains it. Despicable.
^Agreed. This can't really be surprising to anyone. I took this shot the other weekend, because I thought it was interesting seeing a County cop car within the City limits (even though it is Metrolink specific). But even funnier (or more depressing depending how you want to look at it) was looking over to my left and seeing the two officers in the window seat at Pi enjoying a couple of deep dishes.

I hate to be so cynical, but I totally agree. Even take it 1 step further. As I understand it neither City or County PD can "account" for any specific officer's time -- for those that are assigned to Metro. You begin to understand why...^ I always wondered how Metro was spending so much $ on contracting security patrols out to St. Louis County, but very rarely do you ever see a cop walking a beat on a train or platform. I guess this explains it. Despicable.
And everyone is supposed to Back the Blue! And pay higher taxes so cops can be paid more...
Truly is disgusting and shameful.
I really, really hope the story gets some legs this coming week. Would be nice to see local government & news hold County PD's feet to fire.
I've noticed a ramped up security presence on Metro the last few weeks but those photos drive me into a near rage. People are getting mugged/shot/knifed on the trains regularly and those crooks in uniform are sitting in a security office covering their tracks while stealing from taxpayers and fee users. This has absolutely got to stop.
Hate to say it, but can't wait until the yahoos in Jeff City blow this whole St. Louis City/County thing up. St. Louis just needs one major police department with accountability and high standards. This is absolutely unacceptable. Obvious St. Louis has problems with poverty and lack of opportunity, but let's be real.....neither St. Louis County or St. Louis City police is doing an effective job policing our community. I mean when is the last time you have ever seen a cop walking the beat in St. Louis? Criminals know they can do whatever the hell they want in most areas of St. Louis that are not a gated community and likely not face repercussions. It's ridiculous.
I agree with this. I rode the metrolink a couple times this past week (I ride it randomly when I have a need to). There were a lot more police at stations than I remember, but crap like this going on pisses me off.Ebsy wrote: ↑Jul 22, 2017I've noticed a ramped up security presence on Metro the last few weeks but those photos drive me into a near rage. I don't follow MO Legislature closely. What are the chances of this happening? I'm unclear on what the incentives are for rural legislatures to care. Anyone?

It can be framed as a way to take the city down a peg by removing its county authority, and rurals hate the city.San Luis Native wrote: ↑Jul 23, 2017I don't follow MO Legislature closely. It'll also be sold to Kansas City as a way to check St. Louis for being inefficient, therefore being a burden on the state.San Luis Native wrote:I don't follow MO Legislature closely. This is really giving me pause on how to vote on the sale tax increase to increase pay for City cops.

Next year’s legislative agenda, though, might place St. Louis in the spotlight, if Senate President Pro Tem Richard gets his way.
Richard wants to have the 2018 session consider consolidating St. Louis County municipalities, as well as merging St. Louis and the county and privatizing St. Louis-Lambert International Airport. (Any bid to combine St. Louis and St. Louis County would require some sort of public vote. Whether that will take place in the entire state or just in St. Louis and St. Louis County is up to legislators.)
All of that, he believes, will stop the city's population and economic decline.
“The population is going south. The education in the city is going south. Their transportation and airport is going south,” Richard said. “And they continue doing the same things politically in the city that they’ve always done. I’m of a mind let’s change a little things. Let’s shake things up.”
While he’s not promising that lawmakers will agree to wholesale changes to how St. Louis governs itself, Richard (a St. Louis native) said it’s time to make a change.
“We’re going to have to start merging fire districts, police districts, public safety. Merge county and city. Sell Lambert Field, take that $2 billion or $3 billion on infrastructure in the city,” Richard said. “But you got to protect it, because St. Louis will probably figure out a way to spend the money on umbrellas and stuff.”
Yes, and I think it has a REAL GOOD chance of passing if put to a statewide vote. Like you say, it will be sold by Rex Sinquefield's lobbyist as a way to check big government and waste in St. Louis.MarkHaversham wrote: ↑Jul 23, 2017It can be framed as a way to take the city down a peg by removing its county authority, and rurals hate the city.San Luis Native wrote: ↑Jul 23, 2017I don't follow MO Legislature closely. As much as I'd like a merger (and consolidation) I would much rather NOT have people that don't live anywhere close to St. Louis and will never really have a proper understanding of the issues we currently face (nor actually really care about them) to be making region-altering decisions like that. That seems like it could very well lead to a "tyranny of the majority" type situation where local decisions aren't made by locals, but by others without a vested interest in the area, oftentimes for misguided and/or selfish reasons. That to me would (ironically) scream "big government" more than anything done here in St. Louis.
I would think that Missouri needs St. Louis and KC a lot more than either city needs Missouri.

Part Two of Tony Messenger's expose... I think this is even more damning!
Messenger: Where are the St. Louis County cops on MetroLink? 'They are hiding somewhere.'

Devore believes violence on MetroLink got immediately worse when the county said it was taking over and started to cut Metro police officers out of the safety loop. He remains shocked that he has seen such clear evidence of so many county police officers doing everything they can to avoid the work they’re paid to do.
“In 47 years of policing,” Devore said, “I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Your final point, precisely. Sometimes, I wish STL and KC just split to the neighboring states. However, not really sure how being in IL would benefit us, LOLTrololzilla wrote:As much as I'd like a merger (and consolidation) I would much rather NOT have people that don't live anywhere close to St. Louis and will never really have a proper understanding of the issues we currently face (nor actually really care about them) to be making region-altering decisions like that. ^ My dream is a new state that includes Saint Louis and Kansas City with its capitol and flagship university in Columbia and everything connected by high speed rail. Any county along this corridor would be welcome to join or we could just purchase easements for safe passage.
The state should at least authorize metro to have their own police force. Seems ridiculous that they can'tTrololzilla wrote: ↑Jul 24, 2017As much as I'd like a merger (and consolidation) I would much rather NOT have people that don't live anywhere close to St. Louis and will never really have a proper understanding of the issues we currently face (nor actually really care about them) to be making region-altering decisions like that. Another great piece from the PD on the corruption in the St. Louis County Police Department. Canned excuses and track covering from County brass. Apparently a part three is on the way on Wednesday.

Given the rancor between Metro and St. Louis county right now, it wouldn't surprise me to see Metro file a lawsuit. They've been paying the county for policing service that they haven't been receiving.
I've called my State Representative and State Senator asking for an investigation and I urge the rest of you to as well. This is totally unacceptable and not at all how our government and law enforcement should serve.
I would think Fed dollars were involved so hopefully FBI gets involved as it's straight up fraudhiddeninput wrote: ↑Jul 24, 2017Given the rancor between Metro and St. Louis county right now, it wouldn't surprise me to see Metro file a lawsuit. On the other hand, if Missouri is going to overrule St. Louis on everything it does, they might as well do it right once in awhile.Trololzilla wrote: ↑Jul 24, 2017As much as I'd like a merger (and consolidation) I would much rather NOT have people that don't live anywhere close to St. Louis and will never really have a proper understanding of the issues we currently face (nor actually really care about them) to be making region-altering decisions like that.
