Are "pitbull type dogs" allowed at the CWE dog park? I've heard both yes and no and would like to know for sure. Thanks

There aren't very many hoosiers in the CWE, so maybe it has never come up?

Nice one, poindexter. Anyone have a real response? I am not looking for anyone's input on what a pitbull/pitbull owner is or isn't, just if there is such a rule or not. Thanks.

I would check their web site.

I would contact the proper people. I've never seen any of the dog park people hang out on this forum.

My guess is that that you might not have the best chances. I have a friend who owns a bull mastif and was banned from the U City dog park. Not because anything happened but people were afraid of his dog's breed and size.

EDIT: the website doesn't show any written rules about dog breeds. That doesn't mean people won't act weird and have you banned.

Yeah, I tried those. There is nothing on the site and never got a response from that e-mail address. Thanks for the help, though.

Soulard allows them, but I would rather not have to drive to a park.

When did you email? You could easily be looking at a few day response with something that's only got volunteers.

BTW I'm doing pretty good keeping my opinions out. I was bit by a pit bull when jogging about 10 years ago: 32 stitches. There aren't bad dogs: just bad owners.

I sent an e-mail about 3-4 weeks ago.

Not to start "the debate," but you're right that bad owners make bad dogs, whatever the breed.

Bringing it strong on your second post. Nice.

Maybe we should all take a lesson.

Did you see CS's welcoming and friendly words of encouragement that KC was responding too? CS's post wasn't far off of this:

^ Oh man this is good. Let's move this over to the BPV thread (nothing to do there anyway) and continue the fun for all the forum member! (This is not a joke, it's pretty interesting to see)

Unfortunately, I live next door to a pit bull owner that thinks it's perfectly acceptable to let his dog go into the front yard and around the block without a leash. The owner never brings the dog out when he knows we're outside, and fortunately we have a privacy fence in the backyard, but I still think the situation's like a time bomb. I guess he thinks because he can generally control the dog it's okay, but I (most definitely) beg to differ.

You're right, the owners are the main problem, and I will also keep my opinions about pit bulls to myself.

As far as the dog park is concerned, as someone said earlier, it may take time to get a proper response if it is maintained by volunteers. I don't own a dog, so I have no idea about how (un)common breed restrictions are.

The University City Dog Park now has written restrictions to certain breeds.

The new dog park in Reservoir Square does not ban any specific breeds, only specific dogs with bad temperments.

For anyone who cares;

I don't know who told you that but they are wrong! and I hope you will set them strait we have many pit bulls that come to the CWE dog park and are happy to have them and any friendly dog that is fixed and up to date on shots to join no matter the breed! Sadly this is not the case for all dog parks the U-city dog park and u-city it self has banded them.

hope this helps

Wow, no punctuation at all.

I guess that's good. I'm undecided on pitbulls, because I love dogs.

Pit bulls are allowed, but only two at a time. :)

A well socialized dog usually has a better temperment, no matter the breed, so to ban a breed only breeds the bad tempement.

Are humans with bad temperments allowed?
