I heard that a cook and owner might have also been involved in the arson. Nothing in the media. Has anyone heard? I sure hope that's not the case.

And where exactly did you "hear" that?
Employees (especially those recently fired) and owners are always the initial suspects in cases like this.

Did he/she tell what they know to the police?
I'd assume so...she said it very casually as if everyone knew about it. I don't see her much but I'm looking forward to running into her again to get some clarification...

This is what they call a "Greek rehab". A busboy will NEVER be arrested.
so i heard that the busboy was guilty and that no one else was implicated. good news and i'm sure that will help open up insurance money to help bring this place back.

When was the trial?
^ A trial is not necessary for me since I'm not sentencing anybody. From what I hear, this is what the evidence shows.

Someone can't be "guilty" without a trial or a plea. Perhaps you meant "suspected"?

^ That stretch of Washington has lost two cool places through the most unfortunate circumstances in each case (Red and Copia). I would guess there's a better chance that the latter establishment will rebuild and open, but the crickets are chirping, so who knows when we'll hear anything about either place. (Based on what innov8ion's observations about Red in the related thread, that one's really looking bleak now.)
Don't think I don't know about due process. In my opinion, the rest is just a formality, given the evidence. The Central Scrutinizer wrote:innov8ion wrote:^ A trial is not necessary for me since I'm not sentencing anybody. From what I hear, this is what the evidence shows.

Wow, I hope you're never a judge in my trial!
Well if I were, you would no doubt be in good hands.
But I'm not a judge and am therefore afforded the luxury of making personal judgments based upon reasonable information. Let's just say I normally exercise very good judgment and leave it at that.

well, except for that time last week when you said i should cash that check. or, sign it over to you anyway.

^ Heh, well cashing it wouldn't have been a problem. Spending it without validating might have. I would have returned the money to you if you really needed it. Especially if mama's gotta buy a new pair of shoes!
Through the grape vine...
The owner of Copia is taking over Red and turning it into a mexican restaurant.
Looks like that that will be priority and then the rebuilding of copia.

I don't know about commercial property, but insurance companies are notoriously slow in providing funding for residential fires - my father was a fireman/paramedic, and has mentioned in the past it's not unusual for it to take a year or more for a family to again start living in a home that has burned.
My guess, assuming this is accurate, is that Copia's owner is focusing on the former Red location because at this time he can't yet do much with Copia.

^ Weren't the Copia owners rumored to be backing that late night deli at the WashAve Apartments just across the street as well?
Can't tell for sure if this is related, but the televisions in the Vanguard fitness room were short circuited due to the fire and were not being replaced until the insurance claims went through. Well, sure enough, brand new TVs were put in this weekend.

My understanding is that Bill Bruce was behind the diner. I could be wrong.
^ It's possible we're both right. And kind of a coincidence that Copia was a former firehouse.
