No ground has been broken yet, but there is a sign on vacant land east of the Jack In The Box on the south side of Bates Street east of Grand Boulevard which says that five homes starting in the $150s will be built on this site.

I haven't heard anything about this development, and I haven't seen any renderings. Given the location and the relatively low price point for new construction, I have to believe we're probably looking at five mullet homes assuming this proposal moves forward. Has anyone heard any specifics about this?

I've been trying to find out some info for the last couple of weeks, but I have not found anything so far. I'm going to presume mullet homes, but they should be fairly close together based on the size of the site. My uncle lives down Bates by Woodward school and he said he has seen a backhoe there several times, but no work yet.

Is this the lot that MSD used for their big sewer project? I can't imagine 5 homes being built there. Mullet home? I've got some research to do, that sounds hilarious.

Yes, it is the lot that MSD tore down the apartment building to do the sewer tunnel. 5 houses can fit as long as they are two stories. Mullet homes could actually work in this case, because the parcels will be close together.

From the Holly Hills newsletter:
Lot behind Jack in the Box on Bates. Habitat for Humanity is proposing 5 houses. Committee to make sure they blend in. NiNi Harris, Patrice Petrich from Woodward NOW, architect on Bellerive and one other person. Houses back up to alley on Bellerive.
If by "fit in" they mean with Jack in the Box and Walgreens, I'm concerned.

I trust that with Ms. Harris' involvement, all will be well.

Interesting. I was wondering what lots they were looking at down that way. Looks like there will be new Habitat construction down the street from my house, and down the street from my uncle's house now.

I used to live across the alley from the Petrichs. They live on Bellerive and have done a wonderful job with their home (IIRC, ordering period reproduction wallpaper from Germany plus rebuilding their garage with period materials/that is custom carpentry rather than what you can get at Lowes.) I forget all what they have done to their home but it's impressive (considering we were rehabbing at the time as well. I felt like a hack.)

Furthermore, they are very, very involved regarding crime, neighborhood watch, organizing and mobilizing the block. They are the kind of active residents you want in the area.

I feel this bodes well.
