400 jobs coming with new battery plant in Springfield
A southwest Missouri technology company plans to add 400 jobs with a new manufacturing plant it's building at home after rejecting a move elsewhere.
Northstar Battery is an 8-year-old company that makes batteries for industry, mainly for telecommunications uses such as cell phone towers.
Northstar officials said the new 300,000-square-foot plant will create 400 jobs over three years.
Northstar already has 316 employees at its first plant.
Company officials said they considered putting the new plant in China but had quality concerns. They also looked at other states but decided that Missouri had the best incentives.
Northstar expects to invest about $73 million in the new plant. Groundbreaking is set for April.
