I was unable to find the origional thread to this topic, so if a Moderator could add it into the original that would be great.

Anyway, with the city testing "pay by credit card" parking meters I don't understand why they didn't chose these models poping up in NYC (follow the link). Using these solar powered parking meters before any other city in the region could make us stand out as a forward thinking and environmentally friendly city.

If you see the pictures the "Type B", that are the same model used in Chicago, are solar powered.

Just use the search feature. It actually works well here.

Tried em, like em.

The only thing I DO NOT like is making Grand a Mon - Sat (as opposed to Mon-Fri) paid parking. In my opinion, weekends should be free parking.

My experience as a small retailer Downtown is that free weekend meter parking is a bad idea. Problem is, you get a bunch of restaurant workers and such who park at the meters and leave their car there all day, thereby leaving no spaces for my customers!

That is a perspective I did not have (not being a business owner DT). I would have thought that the restaurant workers would be parking where they would on weekdays.

^Actually, Kevin Farrill of the Downtown Partnership just told us that the Parking Patrol will step-up enforcement of the two-hour parking limit on weekends. Hopefully, this will help reduce the problem.
