Here's a blurb from the mayor's web site - sounds encouraging:

Canyon-Johnson: Magic This Time?

Canyon-Johnson, a joint venture between Magic Johnson?s Johnson Development Co. and Canyon Capital Realty Advisors, has explored its options in St. Louis in the past. I met with them again recently. They said we now have a ?green light? to work together on a retail development initiative in north St. Louis. This sort of thing moves slowly ? or quickly.

I heard about this a few years ago. Apparently Magic's group was 'chased' out of North St. Louis. Does anyone know what happened?

I believe that a group working to stop police brutality called for Magic's company to boycott St. Louis until changes had been made to the system. I don't know if that was the real reason that Canyon-Johnson dropped their plans for the north side, but it certainly couldn't have helped matters any.

Canyon-Johnson has done some amazing things in once very recently delapidated part of Hollywood. Check out the link below, not only is the development itself awesome, the website is pretty impressive too.
