If anyone is still interested in buying the property and restoring it... Eagle Reality has it up for sale. $180,000 asking price.
A co-worker and I were out on the north side this morning and since he had his camera with him we decided to get some pics of the place. When we got there a man was walking around the property looking it over and talking on a cell phone. He asked who we were and said he was talking to the property owner who wanted to know who we were and why we were there. I took the phone and explained that we were just taking pictures. I asked if he really was the owner and he said that he was. I asked what he was planning to do with the place. He said he was going to rehab it. That he was accepting bids and that the work will begin in September. He said he was concerned about us being there because there has been a lot of vandalism to the property. I was dying to know who he was but didn't have the guts to ask him his name. I checked the assessor's database and it shows the owner as Blairmont Associates. As we were leaving I over heard the man, I assume a contractor, telling this guy over the phone that all the cast iron (he called it steel) was ruined and would have to be taken off. He could replace it with some type of wood and he went on to say that he could just cover up something. I couldn't make out any more of the conversation, although it was sounding like he was not planning to re-produce the original look.
Interesting, but I'll believe it when I see it. Sounds like anything that could conceivably happen would be low quality anyway. I wish I would have been there with you.
Yeah, I didn't believe him at all. I've never taken on a major rehab on any property but I can't imagine getting bids in July on a huge buiding like that and being ready to start working in September. I would think it would take several months for a contractor to develop plans and estimates for a job that big. And then there are all the city hoops to jump through to line up the permits, etc. So yeah, I think he's just blowing smoke. A year from now that place will still be sitting there rotting away.
When I saw that Blairmont Associates owns the property I pretty much figured it's gonna sit there along with all the other north side properties this outfit owns.

The roof of the chapel at the Clemens mansion (still owned - and neglected - by Blairmont) caved in yesterday:

Reportedly, the owners finally got around to sending some workmen to the site just a few days before the collapse, but their activities were halted by city inspectors. According to the video, city officials plan to meet with the owners next week to discuss the condition of the properties.
