Cuddles Day Care is being demolished to make room for a new Wendy's.

I saw the demo equipment and fence there Friday and was wondering what was going on. As much as I really like Wendy's and want one back in the city, I was hoping for more. I guess it's better than an empty lot.

Didn't that place used to be a Shoney's?

Apparently Rax has not yet entered the Missouri market.

Rax has come and gone. There used to be one on Manchester Road in Ballwin.
That was back in, like, 1985.

Wow. I used to love Rax back in Indiana - no idea I'd get so much info about it here. Love the forum.

They can build a brand-new Wendy's at Gravois and Gustine, but they can't re-open the one on Kingshighway?

Yeah, there was one on Kirkwood Road as well back in the day. It's an Arby's now. I didn't even know Rax still existed.

There was one in Fairview Heights, IL at Long Acre road and 159. It had a huge salad bar...very 80's.

Seriously, no one has mentioned the Rax on Grand (south of Chippewa)? And I guess the old Wendy's next to SSN Bank tower did well enough for them to build one a few blocks down. That was the only Wendy's I ever experienced.

What's on the former Rax property now? I didn't know one existed down there.

I used to frequent the Wendy's on Kingshighway. I do not recall if the place did well or not. I'd assume it did because it was there forever. I know people wonder why they do not reopen that location, but there are obvious reasons. For one, that building is no longer viable. It is outdated and was outdated when it closed. The owner of the restaurants that closed, did very little in the way of updating his buildings. When I was a kid in the 80s, the tables had all of the 1920ish ads on the tables. His still did as of the time they closed. The one across from Grasso Plaza was almost disgusting, it was so old. Just felt kind of dirty. I highly doubt the chain would go into any of his dumpy old buildings and reopen. It may be cheaper to tear down and rebuild. I am not saying that I agree with not reopening and gutting the Kingshighway location, but the Gravois location, likely will be it in the area.
I'd like to see a Wendys at the old Ponderosa site, versus nothing. If I had a choice, I want a Sweet Tomato there. It would do great there. Unfortunately, that building is like the Wendy's on KingsHWY, needs so much work, may be cheaper to tear down and rebuild.

Honestly, I have not been on that stretch of Grand probably since Rax closed. I looked on streetview, and apparently its an Arby's now. Building still looks exactly the same
