I know this branch has been discussed in the Central/Downtown branch thread but have a tidbit of news.

I was back in town last weekend (packing up my belongings, closing on the sale of our house:cry: ) and my wife and I drove by the library.

Four people in suits/business attire were taking pictures of the building. We stopped asking it was in regards to the rehab. Yes it was.

I told them the adjacent building should not be torn down but incorporated as an expansion since the current building is too small.

One of the group has been pushing for that and a woman said demolition alone would eat up to much of the budget. They wondered if parking was a problem. If said no because the library is so underutilized--if there was an expansion next door--like Buder-- parking may become an issue due to its increased popularity. A good problem to have.

They said the goal is to have it completed by 2009, the building's 100 year anniversary. They were also encouraged that the residents were enthused, informed and cared about the project.

I was just there a week ago. There's certainly nothing visible going on.

I called the branch yesterday and they have no news to report. Too bad, I'd like to see the drop ceiling removed to reveal the original ceiling.
