Ran across this abandoned school on Street View and I Googled it. My search said that it was built in 1898 and closed in the mid-1990s. Does anybody know the future of it?

I imagine it was probably once pretty busy, but most of the residential appears to have moved out of the neighborhood years ago.

It's a relatively small building, but it is handsome.

You should always look on Geo St. Louis: (it's in private hands and zoned industrial - would make a great condo project though - imo)

I love this building, but wonder how it would be to live in with it so close to the highway.

With IKEA and everything going on in Cortex, it's only a matter of time before this old school gets redeveloped, right???

^ I wish that were the case but I don't think the trucking company owner has the best of intentions... we need to get that use out of the area.

It'd be nice if Kaldi's could get it and convert it into company offices, so they could expand their roasting production space in their facility. Plus buy up the gas station, and trucking company and build a signature Kaldi's anchoring the ground floor on one of the corners. It'd be a pretty big move requiring a lot of capital, and Kaldi's is probably still paying off their new digs...

I do think the trucking company will move on once they secure top dollar for their land. All the IKEA car traffic will see to that. I just don't know if the next use will be anymore urban. Knowing how things go I am pessimistic. The good money is on a McDonald's-esque fast-food franchise.

I went to school here in the 4th grade - 1965 / 1966. I saw that the building is on the historic registry. I wish I could find some pictures of the building when it was actually in use as a school. So sad to see it boarded up.
