The company (Whittaker) also has asked the city to:
Build an electric trolley line between New Town, the Main Street shopping area and the Ameristar Casino over the next decade.....
Goss said the trolley line conceivably could be financed by a special sales tax in areas near the route, although the company's proposal doesn't specify a financing source.
Goss said a sales tax boost at businesses inside New Town that will pay for concerts and other events at its outdoor amphitheater could also be used for transportation under a state law enacted last year.
He said the theater, cultural arts and entertainment district being set up at New Town under that law also could be expanded to cover other areas along a trolley route.
York expressed concern that Whittaker's proposal also calls for the city to push to expand MetroLink from St. Louis County across the Missouri River to New Town.
She said that would be politically difficult because city voters had been among the St. Charles County electorate's rejection of MetroLink plans in the mid-1990s.
"Personally I support light rail, but the city voted it down," she said.

Interesting story, although there's not too much about the transit stuff. I think a trolley similar to what was described would work in that area. I also think Metrolink access would really enhance New Town. I don't really see it happening any time soon, but it's still an interesting proposal. An extension could run from somewhere around the current airport lines, probably north around Boeing and Ford, past the Mills, across the River, (there is an existing rail Bridge adjacent to Hwy370, not sure if it is in service) and connect to New Town. It's feasible, just not really likely.
