I drove by yesterday. The sign says Soulard Smokehouse, instead of Fat Toney's.

But....the sign also said Restaurant for Sale, and the building was dark.

So, not only is Fat Toney's closed, but the replacement is closed too?

I went in a few times in the evening for carryout. The BBQ was decent, but there was never anyone in the place. Unless they did a bang up lunch business, it doesn't surprise me that it's closed.

We used to go to FT's periodically for lunch, and they always seemed pretty busy. The quality seemed to slip though, and we stopped going there.

I was of the understanding that he closed or was closed back when Juniper Grill closed a while back. I am not sure though, haven't been there in a while.

The story I heard was that the group that opened Fat Toneys couldn't play nice together. Somehow the dumbest ones won out with the least restaurant experience, kicked the others to the curb, changed the name and quickly ran the place into the ground.

I wanted to like Fat Toney's so much but found the quality of food lacking way too many times. I wasn't suprised to see it closed.

As far as Fat Toney's goes, the building can be yours for $650K:

IMO, best BBQ in the neighborhood can be found at Gladstones.

^ i wouldnt say that. The remaining owner had a great amount of restaurant history. Didnt know the other owner.

A significant illness popped up unexpectedly in the owners life, that might have to do with closing of the business?
