I had never even heard of this place until a few months ago. The place is like a time warp, more so than any other place I've been to on the Hill. The sandwiches are excellent and the owner (?) could not have been more friendly. I had the special which was excellent. You have to check out the St. Louis murals on the walls too. EVERYONE that reads this site needs to check this place out. How in the hell I had never been, or even heard of this, I have no idea.

^I am so glad somebody out there finally discovered what I believe to be one of the best sandwich shops/delis in town. It used to be call Rumbolo's, owned by Leo Oldani, I believe. The name was changed to Eovaldi's several years ago. When it was Rumbolo's, it was hands down, the best deli around. Eovaldi's has kept that tradition alive, serving the same or similiar quality sandwichs as Rumbolo's. It is a small place, but you will not be disappointed. It is slightly inconspicuous on Elizabeth across from Mama Campesi's. Try it!

Forgot to mention, as Jcity said, the Special is unreal! You have to start there.

*Funny story about Rumbolo's. Used to have a very old man working the counter. I believe he was part owner with his son. I was in high school, cutting grass on the Hill. I would frequent the place with my fellow grass cutters. We would raid our parents Entertainment books and get a buy one/get one free for the deli. We would order and present the coupon and he would get so P'd off. He would mumble and grumble under his breath and you could here him saying 'God d@mn coupon' in the back. He hated giving us free sandwiches. It was funny, guess you had to be there.

I could probably find out by clicking the link, but what's the price like? We never went to the Hill to eat because I looked up like 3 restaurants and they were always $15+ for an entree, which is quite a bit of money to eat out (to me).

this is a deli, with maybe 6 tables. The prices are under $10.

It's funny how many St. Louis restaurants/delis carry the muffuletta--supposedly a New Orleans-only sandwich.

yeah I've been seeing more and more of them in STL. BB's makes a pretty darn good one!

I mean, you won't stop going to Central Grocery, but it's still tasty!

Now if I could find a roast beef Po Boy that in STL that rivaled Guy's on Magazine I'd be set :)

$5.75 for sandwiches? Ridiculous.

I paid $5 for a friggin Big Mac meal today. (I only wanted the ticketfest coupon to be fair...)

I think this is the place I stumbled into when last on a Hill a few weeks ago searching for Volpe's. The sausage I got there was excellent and I need to go back for more. The OP is right, is old fashioned interior. They should not change anything.

I went to Central Grocery last wednesday to try the Mufalata... The full sandwich is enough to feed a family of 3 and i'm not sure what all the hype was about. Too much bread.

Central Grocery has pretty much become a tourist trap. None of the locals go there, as there are far better muffaletta's to be found elsewhere in New Orleans.

On a local note, I do believe Volpi supplies them with their salami, or did at one time.
