The Thaxton aka Speakeasy is opening underground, down below the thaxton. There's going to be a back alley entrance (between Olive and Locust) with a red light and a metal door that has a Speakeasy style slot that a door guy sits behind and eyeballs peeps through before letting them in.

It's a pretty nice bar they have down there - we checked out The Thaxton when looking at wedding reception venues. Glad they're opening it up to the public.

Wow, nice looking joint.

It would be cool if they played music of the era.

We went Saturday night. It is fantastic. They are open on Friday and Saturday evenings. Drinks are good, nice and stiff.

I agree on both accounts. I've always liked the Thaxton, so I'm very impressed with what the owners have done with the Speakeasy. I'd like to see music of the era featured at least once in a while- I'm not much into clubs per se but something like that would get me there for sure. 8)

I'd also be interested to know what beers are available, because I would at least like to check the place out during happy hour. 8)

When the eyeballs peeps at me, and I flash my bling-encrusted grilled smile, will I be being let in?

So are they on a soft opening already? Or was that for an event? I'd love to check it out without the grand opening hoopla.

It was during the soft opening. They are open every Friday and Saturday night.

Draft Beer - AB products

Bottled Beer - Acme, New Castle, PBR, Miller, AB, Schlafly, etc...

Friday Happy Hour - 4-7 $2. AB and $4 well

Lounge , Funk, Soul and Jazz Music.

Any other questions...

Beer selection is definitely disappointing. PBR? Ugh.

^ etc. I don't know beer. I drink vodka. Why don't you stop by there and see for yourself before you pass judgment. CS - you could use a night out and away from the carry-out pizza.

Mark P (owner of the building) told me that it was his goal to make the Thaxton look "More Art Deco than Art Deco was". Looks like he succeeded :D

I'll go by. But if that is the beer selection, probably only once in a while.

Stopped by for happy hour last night. Very cool space, was much smaller than I anticipated which actually made it more interesting. There were probably 12 people there and some of them were hanging out with the owner of the building. Bartender was very nice and said the alley entrance would be ready around the first week in December.

We stopped in there on Saturday night and had a good time. The back entrance is now open.

We were impressed by the decor and the DJ had the crowd moving. The place was doing good business.

Sounds bad a**. Look forward to going on a weekend! Also looks premiere for throwing a private party. I saw something on the website about New Years. Does anyone know more about this? Sounds alot better than going to the cliche banquet hall/bar then hotel where you have to fight to get a crappy draught/well(those of you who have been know what Im talking about).

We tried to go there last night at about 7:00, but no one was home....Rang the buzzer in the alley but no one came to the door. Does this place still exist?

I noticed they were throwing a NYE shindig on a walk from City Grocer while picking up some wine, cheese and such.

We went on Friday....Supposedly the happy hour ends at 7:30 on Fridays. You would think they would be open at 7:00.
