(I split this topic from the CWE NIMBY thread so we could carry on with a discussion of Lucky's- ThreeOneFour.)

I dunno about Fado posing a large risk, but I can tell you that Lucky's downtown is a concern on Sundays. Gunshots were heard last Sunday night near there. Something needs to happen before another person is killed like at Club Isis, the same location as Lucky's.

Partying is fine. Thug parties w/ guns, fighting and incessant honking is not acceptable in our downtown neighborhood. Shape up or ship out, Lucky's.

If what happened the other night is typical, I think the police would get tired of hearing from me if I lived in the area. What's going on there is inexcusable.

There was a similar promlem with another area hip hop club, I won't go into more details. You know I never thought I'd see the day when I would be for shutting down the hip hop only clubs DT until now.

I actually heard those...

I was walking my dog late one night a couple of weeks ago and a bunch of guys who had just left Lucky's were crossing Tucker heading east and I glanced at them as I rounded the corner one said "How bout this Mother *****?" to the other 5. I'm guessing I was about to get jumped, but I was 30 feet ahead and made it to my building. As I turned around in the elevator they had idled by the front door.

Not cool. I'm 28 205lbs and can handle myself if I have to. I don't want to, especially when walking my damn dog.

We were at the SLU basketball game a couple of Saturday nights ago and a couple of fine gentlemen who apparently had nothing to do with the game were screaming at exiting fans around Olive and challenging them to fights. There are usually several hundred people who filter out towards Chestnut, Olive and sometimes even Locust, and I've yet to see a single cop patrolling the streets after the SLU games.

It only took a few incidents to kill Gaslight Square 40 years ago, and it's only going to take a few assaults or worse to severely impede any progress Washington Ave has made, especially in the context of crossover from sporting and entertainment events at Scottrade and Busch.

What has CWE done to grant themselves so much power in pulling liquor licenses? Is it something we could copy as DT residents? Why do residents of CWE get to be consulted before a new club opening, but we have to sit by and watch these thug clubs rot our othewise prospering neighborhood?

Because there are fewer stakeholders there with the housing type, dissenters are more powerful. With the density downtown, and mindset of a lot of residents about new retail of any kind, they tend to either not care what the place is...and an infinitely smaller percentage of the polled group.

I have a feeling that Lucky's isn't long for this world.

Wasn't Lucky's originally on the Landing? If so, was it causing the same problems there too?

^ The Landing is not an up-and-coming residential neighborhood.

Enough is enough. We shouldn't wait for someone to get shot again. It's time to take action. So where do we focus our complants? It's in Alderwoman Triplett's ward, for one. The liquor license board?

The Downtown St. Louis Residents Association could then mobilize the various lofts and apartment complexes nearby. The sh*t's gonna hit the fan when whatever entity receives tons of complaints from residents.

If even half of what has been said about Lucky's and its clientele is true, shut 'em down! Our friends DT don't deserve to be subjected to this when they walk out their front door.

I'm sure someone will claim you are all "Uppity Dippity Dop" but screw 'em!

^ Here's another discussion of the issue http://dslra.org/component/option,com_f ... /id,63/#63

It's how I first heard about the gunshots. The Way of the Arch heard them as well. There's been reports on Sunday nights of various fights from/near that location and incessant honking as well.

Community safety and protecting our downtown investments are more important than the freedom to throw gangster parties.

I was only asking the questions. I only wanted to know b/c I had never really heard of the place, or of any problems it might have been causing, until it moved to Washington. I was curious if it only started causing problems after it moved to Wash Ave, or if it was always a trouble spot.

Call Bob Kraiberg. http://stlouis.missouri.org/citygov/dps/dps.htm#excise

Having once owned 1/4 of a bar (many years ago), I can tell you he doesn't put up with any crap.

I called the police a few months ago on a Sunday night when some moron was out on the sidewalk at 2:00 am shooting off bottle rockets.

I am not familiar with the shooting incident everyone is talking about.

ETA: I also noticed that there was no activity there this past Sunday (12/2), so maybe it has already been shut down.

Actually, it's in the 5th ward, not the 6th.

The DSLRA board has been notified and the incoming President has written an email to Alderwoman Triplett. Looks like we need to redirect it...

^Speaking of the cut up DT wards, when would we be eligible for re-districting so that we could have all of DT under one united front with one single alderman/woman coordinating our needs?

Maybe relevant, maybe not but there have been two recent homicides in vehicles at Broadway and Cole, one just Sat night/Sun morn around 3, where the victim had just left an unnamed downtown club. The name of that club would certainly be known to the police department.

Kwame owns this building right? I would complain directly to them. They have a not insignificant interest in seeing Washington Avenue prosper.

I'd argue that downtown's three aldermen make its interests better represented. Certainly, the CWE is well served by its three aldermanic votes.

Capt. Leyshock should be alerted to this issue. I'm sure he could confirm whether Lucky's is connected to this homicide. The more evidence of malfeasance, the better.

Umm, so much for dress codes being helpful to prevent these types of issues.

Did not hear about the gunshots, but of all the new places on washington ave this place is just crap. Thug parties on sundays and hoosier drunks on friday and saturday nights. Isn't this the same people who opened Dolce?

What a letdown when you compare the two.

For those of you that live downtown within the 5th ward, I would recommend going to the monthly meetings for the 5th ward. I'm disappointed that I never see any of the 5th ward residents from downtown attend.
