I noticed on the way to work this morning that the old warehouse at the southeast corner of Jefferson and 44 (right next to Johnny Brock's warehouse) has a banner advertising Randall's Liquor and Spirits - Coming Soon. Sounds interesting.

Here's the building:

This is the same place that I used to frequent when I lived in Fairview Heights. It's currently located on Lincoln Trl (Highway 50) west of IL 159. The website has a different name, but the actual bricks and mortar store is called Randall's wines and spirits. They ship a lot of wine and beer around the world. Hopefully this won't only be a warehouse because they have a great selection.

It'll certainly give Dirt Cheap a run for their money. Randall's is one of the few places I can find a decent selection of South African wines at great prices!

I went to Dirt Cheap once. It wasn't pleasant. I've decided to take my business elsewhere.

If this place becomes open to the public, that would be great...I would take my business there.

Randall's in Fairview has one of the best selections I've seen. It'll be great to check out this new location.

Now the locals will have a place to get their 40 oz cans of Busch.

I thought they couldn't sell 40 oz in city limits...

They're 32 ounces.

This is suprising since from what I know of the area many of the businesses have to get the ideas by the community associations. I believe this falls in McKinley Heights. Plus due to its location Fox Park should have been notified. They may have restrictions on the license that they can not sell 32oz beers cold. That what a different store was going to be asked by the neighborhoods.

The Randall's in Fairview specializes in selling wines and hard-to-get imports/micros. I never bought any Bud Light or Busch there. To put it into context, think of the selection that City Grocers has. ( mostly high-end six packs and no 4 packs or single bottles except high end 12 oz beers).

I don't know what products will be sold at t this new location, but I doubt it will be much different than their other one.

Thanks for the info Brickandmorter. I am new to the area and don't know all the stores. If it does sell I am so excited. It is in walking distance from the house and there are a lot of wine drinkers on Russell. It should do really well in that location.

We went to Randall's today...if you guys think this is a seedy liquor store, you are mistaken. They have a huge selection of very hard to find spirits, wines and microbrews. It is already impressive and they are expanding their microbrew section as well. Their prices are really amazing, on a lot of the stuff they will ahve tags showing you the Schnucks, Costco and Shop N Save prices...

anyway, they have wine and cheese tastings...it is a very nice place

note: moved from the "randalls threatened" thread and edited some...as this no longer seems to be the case and there is this thread...

just went in and purchased a variety of german hefes (weihenstephan, etc). had a much better experience here and seemed to have a more beer-knowledgeable staff than at some places in the county ive been and didnt feel like a "second rate customer" for *gasp* buying beer and thats especially annoying when the staff knows *nothing* about beer.

i had a good experience here and will be back.

they said the neighbors really enjoy having the place (not in a condescending way).

I do wish they'd clean-up the area in front of the store. It looks pretty cheesy hanging a "wine and spirits" banner on an abandoned trailer.

kind of funny, we noticed on our way out, there were a couple of lower arrangements near the front door...we read the cards, they were from neighbors welcoming them to the neighborhood and wishing them the best of luck...

I went there this weekend...............Twice! I am very excited to have this place nearby. Definately not seedy, and definately much more than a wine store. The prices were noticeably lower on many products too, and not just the ones that they had singled out for special attention with the comparisons to other retailers. I don't think the place looks bad from the outside, needs a little tuck pointing, but the inside was nice and clean.

I went there twice as well ... and I loaded up. Completely stocked my wine fridge. The place is a gem. At first I was a little let down - as the wine selection wasn;t nearly as large as I had hoped (it carries less than World Market for example). But after lokign closer I realized its worth. He has a really well picked selection. Its clear that he tries to only offer wines of quality at every price. You really can;t go wrong with anythig in his store. I was really impressed. And his entire stock is well labeled. High

Perfect. It sounds like my kind of place.

I'm glad the owners cleared the hurdles they faced before opening, because this is a great addition to the city.

About how big is this place? I cut through the city every now and then on the way home and this is right near the highway ramp.

Do they have a good selection for a cheap skate like me?
