Charter has been going through a lot of management changes lately. And yesterday the CEO resigned. While the main headquarters remained in St. Louis, the outgoing CEO had set up a secondary HQ in Denver - his hometown - where he operated. There had been much speculation about Charter leaving St. Louis altogether. I guess Allen's comments to the Post-Dispatch clears things up.

Considering Jerry Kent and others have grown the St. Louis region into a respectable cable and telecommunications industry player with firms like Millennium Digital Media, Cebridge Connections, and Savvis Communications, I think it was wise for Allen to keep Charter's HQ's in St. Louis.

From Post-Dispatch linked article below.

"Allen said Charter had no plans to move its headquarters. "St. Louis remains our company headquarters and our most important cluster" of cable subscribers, he said."

That's great, but now there is speculation that May Co. may be acquired by a competitor as a result of the CEO's abrupt departure. I fear that company is going down hill fast.

Yeah, May could be bought and merged with Federated although May is bigger since the acquisition of Marshall Field's.

But Federated is the only likely suitor because they have more cash on hand from what I've read in the past. Federated was looking to get bigger to compete with Kohl's and the other discounters. Some shareholders were supposedly pressing the merger between Federated and May, but Kahn wasn't buying it.

Anyway, I think the merged company would have to spinoff some store divisions to meet federal regulations. Such a spinoff could create a new company in St. Louis.

Where the larger merged company would go? I don't know. Hopefully St. Louis!

I imagine things are going to be moving fast especially since Sears and K-Mart recently announced a merger.
