I don't have a subscription but this seems promising.

The food hall, which will be called The Eatery, will be located on the first floor of the 42-story building, located at 211 N. Broadway, and include initial tenants Arista Gourmet Salads & Flatbreads, Dino’s Deli and Kimcheese Asian Fusion

Whoa. This is exciting but there's already a lot of food around there. Especially with MX continuing to expand with Fork And Stix coming. That being said, best of luck to them, can't wait to check it out.

This article has more details if you don't have a sub to the biz journal.

Plans for the food hall, which the developers say will be the first downtown, include a 1,000-square-foot outdoor patio.
Construction is scheduled to begin this month with completion expected this fall.

Nice! Can we land a CVS or something down there next?

Is this just a fancy remodel of the existing cafeteria-style Restaurant on the ground floor?

See, as someone who eats downtown ~6 times/week, I question if there is really demand for new dining options. For some anecdotal evidence, the MX-area restaurants are almost always empty after lunch. Lunch is solid tho! Pi, snarf's, crazy bowls, taze, porano seem devoid of many customers after 1:30 pm. Sugar fire and Robust seem to do a little better.

And please no tax credits for this. We can't keep subsidizing retail. Jobs jobs jobs

It will be across from the existing cafe.

Maybe this is a way to make the building more attractive for current/future tenants?

Because of crime, Brown and Crouppen was threatening to leave that very building a few months ago. With parking in Met Square, B&C employees don't even need to leave the building for varied dining options now.

I just don't see greater downtown STL demand for even more dining options.

Met Square may be joining the AT&T building....

Default 'imminent' for Metropolitan Square owners

Metropolitan Square, one of St. Louis’ largest office developments, has been transferred into special servicing, according to an update from Fitch Ratings...
Earlier this year, One AT&T Center, the largest office building in the St. Louis region, was transferred to a special servicer due to imminent monetary default. The transfer was likely triggered by AT&T’s intention to vacate the entire building at the end of September."

No fears of tenants leaving at this time though, right? Having TWO empty skyscrapers downtown would be crushing.

So... JLL didn’t pay the bills? Or they ran out of money. I think it is time we get some smart office building owners in here before we drown in abandoned space. If both AT&T and this go empty, just saying, Downtown will be swamped, literally. The way I see it, tenants may not leave unless this issue becomes so big that it affects them personally. But if they just leave, I say we better be prepared for the worse.

So who are the smart owners? The owners/investors behind ATT One Center and MET believe our large established real estate investors who overall have pretty impressive track records. Believe the group behind ATT One Center is Inland Real Estate Group out of Oak Brook IL which established/owns the company that bought out ATT One Center from ATT. The issue is not that having smart owners but a slow growth region with local corporate leadership that has done more to hurt the core than help

Metropolitan Square will not go empty. Financial troubles with the buildings owners will have to effect on tenants.

601W Cos. Is the owner and they seem to have Their hands in too many properties. One of Their largest towers in Chicago also is in special financing too.
This has nothing to do with the tenants in the building. The occupancy is fairly high right now.

What it does mean... a sale is imminent and needs to be done swiftly.

Should note though that 601W has not failed to pay any notes on the property.

It is coming along nicely. I would expect it to be open in a month or two.

This is a bit off topic but does anyone know where I could find an architectural plan of metropolitan square?

I'm trying to use the penthouse office space for a project.

Seems like a food court to me......

PostJan 27, 2018#23

Speaking of food courts does anyone else remember when downtown had at least four of them? Union Market, Union Station, Old Post Office and St. Louis Centre.

Has anyone tried these restaurants yet? I'm hoping to make it over there in the next couple of days.
