Another question, another thread....so glad I found this forum, it has been really helpful!
Has anyone had any experience of Tysan properties in St. Louis? I can't find much about them on review sites on the interweb, and before I go signing my life away, it would be good to hear if there where any horror stories associated with the company.
Tysan bought the building I use to live in in 2010 and they were very good to us. I had to relocate for a better job but right before I left they had started to remove the old boiler heat and install brand new central heat and AC in the whole building. Also their leasing guy Mike is kind of goofy but is easy to work with when help is needed.
I told them 3 times about water damage that was happening each time it rained and they did nothing about it. Finally the ceiling around my windows caved in! That happened Friday, today is Monday and they still haven't fixed the 6 foot hole in my ceiling that is exposing what looks like all kinds of mold. I'm a little concerned for my health, but I don't have anywhere else to stay at the moment.
I've asked them to fix other things around my apartment (simple things like a broken drawer) and they never get back in contact with you.
So unless you like fixing a lot of things yourself and dealing with unresponsive property owners, don't live at a Tysan Property.
I realize this is years past the date of being of use to the original poster, but I wanted to post my experience with Tysan Properties for any future tenants as I remember when I moved into my apartment 3 years ago, it was very hard to come by any information on the company. As I move out of my Soulard apartment 3 years later and look back, I would do it all again.
Price is the first thing that comes to mind. Our rent was less than any of our friends and we looked at a lot of apartments prior to moving in, and this was definitely more updated than any other place you'd find for the same amount (not to mention the prime location). That being said, I've always had the attitude that the rent and response time of management are a trade-off you have to be willing to deal with. I was willing to put up with more because of the flexibility and affordability management offered me. It never took us more than 2 emails to reach management, and they were over-accommodating once they responded. For instance, our oven was setting the fire alarm off, and within 2 days of emailing we had a brand new one. A couple of times I forgot about rent and dropped it off a day or 2 late with no harassment or late fines. My last example would be how flexible they were when my roommate had to move last minute and I was not sure whether or not to renew the lease depending on whether I could find a new roommate. They were so understanding and let me go month-to-month for a bit while only asking in return that I not move out in winter (harder to find a tenant then). My other friend just asked the same of his landlord, and they wanted to increase his rent by $300/month to do the same thing.
So I guess all in all I just wanted to provide a different perspective for those debating whether to rent with the company. If you are laid-back and willing to send a couple of emails before losing your cool, then they are a pretty good choice.
Sorry, but this comes across like someone from Tyson did a Google search, found something negative on an STL based forum, and decided to create an account to save face by creating a random post. I find it VERY unlikely that someone would be THIS passionate to not only create an account but just so happen to post their first post in such a lengthy fashion with verbiage this grand. Doesn't pass the smell test.
