I'm going to check out Garduno's this week. Chimichangas rules and I like Chavas. Where else?

Mi Ranchito on Vernon (U. City) is good. Went there last night.

La Vellesana at Cherokee and California

This is my favorite.

RFT review says dollar for dollar the best restaurant in St. Louis.

I probably eat at Chimichanga's once a week... best chips and salsa, EVER!

La Vallesana is great too and I've been to Gardunos once, if you go, get the ceviche, it was the best I have had in a long time.

Best Mexican, I dunno, can you be more specific?

Oscar de la Hoya, Diego Rivera, Carlos Santana, Carlos Slim Helú, Miguel Covarrubias...all have their fans.

I vote for Santana. :P

You won't be disappointed with Garduno's. They serve their Coke in glass bottles that stand probably a foot high, and give you a new bottle when you ask for another Coke (free refills!). You get to take the bottles home, which was a cool memento. They are straight from Mexico so that was pretty cool.

arcelia's USED to be good. I'd put that on the worst list now. I love their alcohol free margarita's...

Mi Ranchito and Chimichangas! El Bronco is good too.

I like Mamacita's. I usually hit there on Monday for the tamales, very good. The rice is actually good too, I usually never eat it at other Mexican joints.

Also, cosign on Chimi's and El Burrito Loco. I need to try a few places on Cherokee though.

Ah, an alcohol free margarita. For people who don't want to get drunk but love heartburn!

Garduno's is currently my fav. Didn't know what to get the first time i went, and decided on The Garduno. I figured they put their name on it, must be good. It was fantastic. Big bits of juicy steak.

Used to like Pueblo Solis quite a bit a couple of years ago since i lived a block from there, but having been to Cherokee, PS has dropped a few notches. Their top shelf margaritas are very nice tho.

I don't get all the positive remarks for Chimichangas. They might have THE worst margaritas ive ever had. Their salsa isn't even remotely hot either. The only thing cool about it is the patio. I've been three times, and have never been impressed. Last time my burrito was sitting in a puddle of watery stuff. Never again.

Next on the list is that taco shack place on cherokee.

Garduno's, for sure.

Also Lily's, down on Kingshighway a bit south of Chippewa.

Let me guess: your favorite burger is White Castle and favorite pasta place is Fazollis?

Fazollis has good breadsticks.

But Doug, I know you like to restrict yourself to the 62 square miles, but maybe you should check out the Mexican heart of the region, Fairmount City.

Fairmont City has amazing Mexican food. Just head north on Collinsville Road and you'll see a bunch of places.

My favorite in the region, though, is El Bronco on Cherokee. Best burritos in town.

My bad, wasn't thinking. I drive past the race track far more than I drive through Fairmont City.
