Okay, Friends- its that time again!

This Saturday night, May 10th, we will hold our third bout of the third season at Beach Blanket Derby. My team, the Smashinistas, will face off against last season's champs, the M80s, in what will surely be a fierce battle to the end.

Feel free to wear your bikinis and swim trunks for xtra funnnnnnnnnnn

Hope to see you there!

yeah, you used that one before old man 8)

It will be interesting tho b/c we lost Sue She to a broken leg (in 4 places) but gained Eli Wallop who just transferred here from the Tucson Roller Derby. Eli's competed nationally and is one hell of a skater. Dali Madison has been out for an injured shoulder but we should find out today i think if she can skate in this bout (she missed the last one due to the shoulder). Julia Ghoulia is still out for being knocked up so we're still down a jammer. On the M80s side, Jawbreaker has been plagued with a foot injury but i think she'll be skating. A lot of us have foot problems lately, including me, but we just try to work thru it.

I wish someone could script me a new right foot!

i like beach blanket blammo! we usually try to fit the word derby or rollerderby in the title somewhere- but thats a really good one that mightve worked...

Tho, I had never heard of the movie Beach Blanket Bingo but its before my time. I bet CS remembers it 8)

The Arch Rival Roller Girls were a huge hit at Mayor Slay's event last night at SLU's Chaifetz Arena. (They provided crowd control -- and a lot of energy.) Chaifetz would be a perfect permanent home arena for them.

Kim Deal mentioned a roller derby bout last night at the Breeders show. Was she referring to arch city rivals?

yes! we had a lot of fun at the Slay party Friday night. Sorry we couldnt stay longer, we had to get our rest for the bout Saturday night.

And what a bout is was! One of my teammates, Jessi Cutthroat broke her arm in two places in the middle of the second period and had to be taken out on a stretcher. We went and saw her in the hospital yesterday. she is one tough cookie. she is in a sling-like thing until she can get a cast a week from now. not sure what that is about but that makes three broken bones for us in a one month period (Sue She broke two bones in her leg at practice last month). we are cursed. i told the girls I am going to sprinkle sea salts in their skates.

we lost by 70 points. it was awful. i didnt even stick around for the afterparty, i went right home to soak my feet and lick my wounds :(

re the Breeders, many of the M80s went to the show after the bout so I am certain Kim was referring to us, the Arch Rival Roller Girls (aka "ARRG"). Romo of the M80s is friends with Kim Deal I believe- or at least a major fan!

If you are looking for something different to do this weekend, we (the Arch Rival Roller Girls aka ARRG) are sponsoring the screening of this documentary on the re-birth of all-girl rollerderby at Webster University- 470 East Lockwood, 63119.

The movie will be shown at 8pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. I will be at the Saturday night screening- hope to see you there, CS:

This weekend we will be putting on the 4th bout of our 3rd season: Saturday Night Derby. Its a disco theme, isnt that clever?

Smashinistas v. Stunt Devils. This bout will determine which of us go to the Championship bout against the undefeated M80s. It will be intense!

So put on your grooviest digs and join us!

Also, check out these great pieces on our league in the St Louis Post Dispatch: http://www.stltoday.com/mds/lifestyle/html/1693 and the St. Louis Front Page: http://www.slfp.com/SLFP-Sports.htm

i hope not, we cant afford any more injuries! chokehold chanel got injured last weekend when our travel team battled ft wayne, indiana. a girl on ft wayne's team blind-sided her with a million dollar baby block after she called of the jam. that girl got ejected but Choke is pretty messed up still.

carrie, one of these days I'm coming to one of your bouts.

This Saturday is out, we've got to go to a dull, expensive fundraiser for which we've shelled out $$$ and our presence would be missed.

But DH and I have got to come once to a Smashinistas gig.

thanks for the support, GE. Aug 2nd will probably be the last Smashy bout of the season unless we win this game by at least 26 points AND we win against the undefeated M80s on August which is what it would take for us to make it to the Championship game in October. we have not won a game yet this season- there is a curse on us. we have one pregnancy, a broken leg, a broken arm - in addition to Chokehold's busted tailbone. its been a very trying season for us and I have begun sprinkling all of our skates with sea salts to ward off bad luck. hopefully.

it sucks to go from being undefeated most of last season to not winning a single bout this year and we really appreciate any and all support =D>

PostJun 12, 2008#74

btw, what does DH mean? its like Babby Daddy, right? i have seen that before....

PostJun 16, 2008#75

Thanks to everyone who came out to see my team WIN by 20 points!

Yay, finally! I think we broke the Smashy curse by buring sage at our team meeting Friday night because not only did we win but no one got hurt! It was so awesome AND Mayor Slay and his wife made a surprise appearance AND he sat on the Smashinista side and wore green 8) I told the girls we need to make him our fan of the month.

The next bout is July 5th between the Stunt Devils (now tied with us for 2nd place) and the M80s (1st place team) and it will be a patriotic theme- we will be offering reduced ticket prices to all civil servants (I apologize if thats not the PC term) ie firefighters, police, etc.

I will post a flyer as soon as we have one
