I've never heard it referred to as Skinnytown and I hang out there a lot. I've always just heard it referred to as "Morganford" like "let's hit up Morganford tonight".

My neighbor is one of the co-owners of Local Harvest and has been keeping us updated via their facebook page.

1) Did someone buy the old Stella Blues location at MoFo and Utah, I've seen activity in there recently.

2) The old Steak and Shake (eyesore) at Chippewa and MoFo has been demolished, anyone know anything more than that?

Well I heard (friend of the bars neighbor) that the bar is reopening as Stella's mainly because the sign is already on the building. He said they want to open by the middle of the month.

Looks like there is a burger joint going in next to Amsterdam, so now you can eat burger while watching the footy. Will share a renovated beer garden in rear

I've missed Tin Can's burgers since they closed. Like having another option.

Does anyone know what is going into the old store front at Morgan-Ford and Hartford?-

Cool building - and they really going to town on it-

^ Adam Allington (St. Louis Public Radio) tweeted out a really cool picture a couple weeks back of the renovation. The shell had covered a ghost sign for Hyde Park Beer!

I hope they keep the ghost sign in place and I hope a great, neighborhood business goes in there (how about The Gumbo Shop?!). Morganford is really building strength/growth right now and that's corner will certainly help continue the transformation.

My understanding is that it is simply being white-walled for potential retail occupancy tenants. They'll preserve the back garden area and most of the retail fill actually face hartford, not Morganford. Kinda blah if you ask me, but it beats a vacant condemned building. I hope they keep that Hyde Park Beer sign as well. Btw, I live in TGS and got this info from a yahoo Tower Grove Group liste serv i'm on

the building directly across the street on the sw corner just got a rehab as well and a new retail business opened. It is nice to see a better gateway to the district.... now if we can just get rid of the car dealership and get a second Olio location that would be awesome!

Word in the TGS listserv has it that this is being converted into a single-family home. I really hope that's not true.

Latest from the TGS List-serv:

"Yesterday we were talking to a man who lives next door to the building on MGF
and Hartford. He told us the plan calls for four retail spaces on the first
floor, three will be accessible from Hartford. I neglected to inquire about the
second floor. This is the old Mugs and Jugs/Ty's Tavern building."

4 retail spaces seems like a lot for that building.

"Mugs and Jugs" sounds like it was a fine respectable establishment

No kidding. Can't we just have Mugs N Jugs back? I don't need another candle store in my hood

I've been watching that building deteriorate (in horror) with the upstairs window open for years, so it's amazing to watch it renovated. I never would have guessed that back part would be renovated, either!

It's awesome to see the long awaited (anticipated) second wave of renovations along Morganford!!!

^ The St. Louis Neighborhood Development Blog has been following the project closely.

Glad to see the rear portion is being tagged for retail, but that sloped roof they're putting in definitely surprised me. Maybe it originally had one, but it sure doesn't seem like it, does it? Hopefully it doesn't stick out sorely from the building below.

[Actually, in my head, I had already taken out the roof, anchored the exterior walls and turned that whole rear space into an awesome beer garden and horseshoe pit for the bar/restaurant (that, again, was in my head) of the main building. Oh well... :( ]

^ Right, the roof is really odd and does not appear to have ever been part of the building.

Driving down Morganford on Sunday, I noticed that the front was were ripped out and being re-constructed at Amsterdam Tavern and the space right next to it. It looks like they are starting the construction on that burger joint that is going in next to Amsterdam. Morganford seems to be very busy in the way of rennovations these days. Love to see it!

Does anyone have any info on the Morganford Tin Can location? A few months ago I heard it had been sold, but the for sale sign is still sitting outside.

I saw a Sold sign posted on top of the for sale sign for a few days. Now the sign is gone. It looks like the Tin Can sign over the door has been removed as well.

Workers have been on site as well but I don't know what may be in store. Also, the "Hyde Park" building has a "leased" sign in the Morgan Ford frontage and workers are busy there as well. And finally the auto sales place at MoFo and Arsenal vacated and the property is being touted as a perfect place for a bar or restaurant.... its a key "first impressions" property for the area and indeed could be a cool spot. Things are looking good!

^If a bar ends up on that corner, I think kickballers alone would keep it in business.
