WOW, so I don't have to go to Wood River for my pinball fix anymore (im a pinball junkie)!

At this rate, Morganford is going to be barely recognizable in a couple of years. Last summer I noticed that it was starting to get a light "big city" random pedestrian vibe, particularly on nice days.

Good, I thought I was the only one! I spent way too much money on the pinball machines in college. One of these days, I'll get my own.

Where in Wood River do you play?

Sorry, South Roxana, IL, not Wood River...

A friend of mine just bought a house with a basement "rec-room", so he went to his parent's house to pick up a vintage 1970s pinball machine that had been gathering dust for 10 years. Wouldn't you know it; they sold the machine a week earlier.

Looks like part of the development on Connecticut and Morgan Ford is getting close to opening. They painted a sign on part of the building facing the carwash. It says 'Plaza Pastries and Donuts'. Also, in the plaza part facing Morgan Ford I see more work being done on the daycare.

Any updates on the pinball joint? I was on Mofo recently but forgot to look.

^I haven't noticed anything going on lately when I've walked by there. I'll check more closely next time.

Well, bad news for the area. Stella's is closed. Rather suddenly too, I was just there on Monday.

Well that sucks. We meant to stop by there last time we went to MoFo, but wound up having such a good time at the Tower Pub (they have a great beer garden) we didn't make it anywhere else.

Hold on Amsterdam and Three Monkeys! We'll be there soon!

Wow. That sucks. They've been around awhile, right? I never did make it there.

Went to the Amsterdam for the first time last night though. Nice place. Very low-key. And apparently they're planning to expand in to the next storefront over.

Three Monkeys seems to do well. Every time I'm in there it's pretty full.

They've done a lot better than some of their predecessors at that location like Digger O'Dell's and Morganfords. The hearsay that I heard yesterday (from another bar owner on the strip) was that one of the investors went broke. Stella's did good business so I'm hopeful that they find somebody to take over.

I live a little further south on Morganford and just got the liquor license petition notice for the Silver Ballroom Pinball Cafe to be located at 4701 Morganford. That's only a couple blocks north of Bevo Mill, at the former location of the Bosnian bar Kemix. Is there anything we can do besides sign the petition to help ensure they get their license? We'd love to have this in our neighborhood.

Thanks for the update! Too bad it's not closer to TG Park, but this should be good for the southern portion of MoFo. It's close to Luna, which is opening in the old Dogtown Italiano space on Gravois too.

Is it a Bosna pinball joint? If so, it's gonna be SMOKEY. Anyone who frequents Bosnian/Croat/Serb/Albanian coffee shops, bars and restaurants knows those Eastern Europeans love their tobacco. Either way, I'm going to drop a lot of coin in this place. And if they can get a vintage Elvira or Whirlwind rig, I'll be your #1 customer.

Wow, that's terrific. How close do you have to live to sign the petition? I live off of Morganford just south of Bates, so I might be too far from that location for my signature to matter. But if there's a hearing or something, I'd try to show up. That section of MoFo needs oddball destination business like this.

These add so much character to the Skinnytown District. Who sponsored this?

Those sculptures are fun! They seem to compliment the other unique things this strip has: The classic car front end at TFA; the metal sculptures and "deck on boulders" at the art gallery; the mannequin legs outside of Vintage Haberdashery's windows. This area is truly one-of-a-kind. In the good sense of the term.

Cool - I like that building.

It would be so nice to replace that car wash next door with more retail space.

True but ever since the new owner spruced up the car wash I don't mind it so much. I do wish someone would pick up the building at the corner of Hartford and Morgan Ford and the one at Wyoming and Morgan Ford. 8)

That bubble sculpture/bike rack justifies the car wash for me. A lot of what these autocentric buildings and lots need is simple landscaping. I mean...expanses of all gray are ugly, but throw in some trees and flowers and that could be a gamechanger.

To me, the biggest detraction is 7-11.

Feel the groovy vibe in one of St. Louis' newest hotspots: Morgan Ford

By Diane Toroian Keaggy

ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH

08/13/2009

Oh yes, Dan Tyree of 2nd Chance Auto Sales has seen plenty of changes during his 19 years on Morgan Ford Road.

“We used to find a lot of needles on the lot,” he said. “Then it went from heroin to crack.”

Back then, a lot of folks around here needed cheap cars and second chances. Now they want sporty scooters in candy apple red or lime green.

“It’s more scooters than autos these days,” Tyree said. “They tell me they get 75 miles per gallon.”
