I wish they would have put some new windows in - open it up a little and make it look like it originally did.

^I know they are leasing the space rather than owning it. Perhaps they don't want to invest too much in the building. The lady who owns it wants a fortune for the thing. Are there any pictures the original facade of the place?

^ I have no news, but they have been working on the interior a lot lately. It's looking pretty nice inside.

There is liquor permit hearing on Oct. 22 for indoors and outdoors. The name on the sign said Plaza Cafe LLC. I'd imagine the restaurant will have a better name.

They've expanded their dining area into a nice open room to the north, which also contains another bar. Outside, they've added several tables (with umbrellas) along both Morganford and Juniata.

The view from the Morganford side is interesting, not only for watching the South Side streetlife, but also because there's that intriguing art gallery across the street with the unusual deck in front.

By the way, the Three Monkeys staff is friendly, and the food's great!

I've been down on MoFo a few times in the last week. We had dinner at Three Monkeys on Saturday, and it was great. I'm so glad they expanded - the space is just really comfortable and homey. I'll definitely be back.

I also stopped in Local Harvest Cafe to pick up breakfast last week - what a great place that is.

Morganford is really looking fantastic these days, and it's so great to see. The building at MoFo and Connecticut is coming along nicely, and it looks like the formerly bricked up windows of another building are being opened up on another building a little further south.

Good crowd at Amsterdam when I drove by.

Does anyone know if there are any plans for the Salvation Army-owned garage near Arsenal? That building has incredible potential.

Things really are looking great. If only Amsterdam would repaint that hideous sky-blue facade. I had a few friends come visit from Kansas City a few weeks back and when we hit up a few of the Morganford establishments, we skipped over Amsterdam. I wanted to give it a try (still haven't) but the group was pretty unanimous that any bar that looks like that on the outside can't be great. While that's an unfair assumption by a bunch on slightly drunk idiots, seeing as that's the client base they should be trying to draw, I have to think it would help business.

I've been wondering about that garage too. I didn't realize the Salvation Army owned it. One new thing I did notice while on the strip yesterday was the 5 or more (I am not exaggerating) for rent signs on the commercial building across from Local Harvest. Tacky doesn't even begin to describe it.

Has anyone seen that new storefront opening on the west side of morgan ford just past A & M Cyclery...(not the same side). It has a bunch of signs up that says "photography" "photos," etc...I was just curious if anyone knew specifically what it was going to be?

I think you are talking about Tim Garrett's place. He owns a bunch of photobooths. I believe he runs some around town (like at the City Museum) and rents some out for parties. Not completely sure what the storefront will be. He's been working on it for sometime though.

local harvest now has an interesting selection of wines and beers-you can buy augusta brewing company bottled beers here. i enjoyed the winter ale. its great that when i want to walk down the street for a beer run, i now have more choices than 7-11 offers e.g. more than A-B Inbev distributes. this is the kind of place that makes a neighborhood. i support it-i encourage everyone to support this wonderful place.

i think that the potential clientele has been narrowed by the euro-soccer theme, but i don't know. i'm glad that that place is there-but i wish more places in st. louis would maintain SOME of the worn in dive feel of places. colorado bobs is the only place left on morganford up here that's a full on dive, but its not within the critical mass above "the tracks" - though the tower pub is a 1/2 dive. i loved rons mighty pub with the tacky window decor, the tv playing unsolved mysteries, and naked pictures of people holding the arch covering their junk. i wasn't a fan of the bird, the people who were possibly deceased unconscious sitting up at the bar, and watered down booze-all three of which would go away sooner or later.

^I know they suffered a lot of water damage over the New Years because of a burst water pipe upstairs. They were closed a bit over that period, but are back open again. I haven't heard of them closing permanently.

This is what I have heard as well. Stella seems to have decent traffic so I doubt they are closing.

Whew. I went by for a beer a couple of weeks ago and I was disappointed and concerned when they were closed.

I'm glad to hear they're open again- I really like that place. 8)

Sounds super nerdy, intriguing, and a wonderful fit for eclectic M-F.

I guess its that building that's being with the glass storefront and the two photo-booths in it. I've been wondering what was up with that.

I thought that was already on the table when people started referring to it as "Mo-Fo".

What is the address of this new pinball joint? I drove by on Saturday, but couldn't figure it out. I thought it was the new construction, but some others have said it is just north of the harvest grocery place.
